It was very enjoyable to take a walk through the old Dutch fort, The facilities are in good shape. Some amazing American history here as well. St. Eustatius was once the mercantile capital of the world during the height of Caribbean piracy and the intrigues of European superpowers.

It is from this place thet St Eustatius wa sthe first place in the world to recognize the USA as an independant state/ Around the fort there are several memorial plaques describing how this took place at the time. The view from the fort is amazing and it is worth several visits at different times of the day

The island is so small and there are not many excursions really. But fort de windt is one of the place to visit if your on this island. Some canons are placed amd some detials about the place. There a natural clock which shows time as per the sun position which is worth watching.

The Island of St. Eustatius, also called Statia is a lovely small Island with a very friendly population. Its like a small village. The Island has a number of historical forts, all with a great view. Ask for a guide from the historical society to show you around. But necessary to request this way before. For soft adventure and nature... More

Not really a fort but more of a lookout station in a remote part of Statia. One can clearly understand why is was placed here a few hundred years ago. No accommodations at all but none needed to enjoy a fantastic view in solitude.

Fort de Windt is not the fort in town but on the west side of the island and offers nice views of St Kitts and Nevis.

We were on Statia for a dive trip with our group. On our off day, we took a walk into town, and at the top of the hill was the fort. A nice view, some history, and a perfect place to rendezvous with the rest of the crew.

Fort de Windt represents history. These canons gave salute shots to welcome and recognize as the first nation ( the Netherlands) the United States after the declaration of independence was signed. It is also a beautiful view point.
