Deer Island is very beautiful but only accessible by tour boats. The food that they serve is horrible and it is very very tacky. I would avoid this at all costs and instead take the little ferry (dingy) over to Stone Island, much much better...More

This was about a 4 hour excursion for us. They took us in a catamaran on a one hour ride around the ocean along the coast of Mazatlan. Then we went to Deer Island, where there was snorkeling, kayaking, banana boat rides, and swimming on...More

It's expensive to go across if you want a tour. I tried to swim it one day. Made it half way and turned around. The waves are strong and the currents are, too. Not much over there. Catamarans are 10000 pesos. I found one guy...More

This was a great afternoon! It takes about 45 minutes by boat to get to the island and the boat staff provide drinks during the ride. Once on the island you can take a banana boat ride, which is a lot of fun, take a...More

Catamaran ride was fun there and back but once there, not much to do except volleyball and beach. Was kinda bored as snorkling was too rough to do. Walking around rocks is slippery so be careful. Guy selling coconut drinks was kind of a money...More

the boat ride to the island was nice, but the island itself was covered in scruffy plants. the water was brown and not at all suitable for snorkeling as advertized.

Booked tour with Aries through El Cid. The island itself isn't much. Fairly rustic. It does have a nice long beach area where my daughters found several shells and sea glass. The activities were okay with a small area to snorkel and a banana boat...More

Our trip was set up by a gentleman named Angel at the El Cid resort, and it was through Aries Tours. He knocked a few bucks off the listed price, and even without that it would've still been worth it for our family of five...More

We have booked a catamaran to Deer Island. Does the boat land at a dock or on shore? I can't swim so I'm worried it will drop us off near the island. Also, is the guided hike to the top of Deer Island too strenuous for overweight seniors?

The catamaran pulls right up on the sand - you can let the captain know your preference & i'm sure you'll be fine. Yes I've hear the hike to the top is strenuous bit i've not done it. We are usually content to enjoy the... More

Was this a cruise booked excursion or on your own. If so, what was the company or name of boat?

Did not use a tour company but they are available. Just go to the beach in front of any of the golden zone hotels and you will see catamarans. Tell the people there that you want to go to the island. They will bring you and... More
