Steep walk but doable and easy to navigate
Jun 2021
This is a doable hike for the determined to make it up. I am not the most in shape person and was able to do this several times, it took us about 30 minutes to reach the top from the Malecon. I recommend good shoes and a water bottle at a minimum. It is easy to find: from the Malecon take Calle Abasolo (there is no street sign there, but it is the street with the statue of the conch with the diver on top also the club on that corner is "Mandela". If you are not sure, there is a street sign on the first street that runs parallel to the Malecon. Also you can see "El Mirador " clearly from there. Follow Abasolo up as far as you can, at one point the road turns into stairs (that look like a piano), you can take either set of stairs. At the end of the stairs, which will have turned to the right you will see 3 more stairs and a yellow guardrail. go up and around the guardrail to the left. Once you are now heading north take the next street (which is Abasolo, the road surface is ridged and there is a red "sidewalk") up. This road is steep, take your time, you can do it! At the end of the street are two more stets stairs, people do not really follow the suggestion of which side to go up and down on, so pick which ones you'd like. take breaks and enjoy the nature around you.
If you have read other reviews that talk about a "dirt path", don't worry, you will not be confused about which way to go. This dirt path is obviously not something anyone would choose over the stairs.

Cemented
Jan 2021
During rainy season, walking to the top might be slippery. May be, that is why paths are cemented. They could have used time tested local methods in constructing the pathways, without cement. View from top tops it all.

A lot of Steps
Feb 2021
If you want some great exercise go up to the top. Even better start at malecon and walk all the way up. Your legs will get strong.

Steps or Street....Know which Route to Take
Jan 2021
I decided to hike one of the local attractions, Mirador de La Cruz. My original plan was to hike up early in the morning and catch the sunrise. Considering the route, I ended up taking, I am glad I slept in. Prior to going, I did some half-ass research on Google and along with remembering some instructions given by Uber driver upon arriving in Puerto Vallarta, I decided that I knew the route. I left my hotel around 11AM and started walking towards the base. I got to the point where I had the choice to either walk up some steps or go up a ramp. Thinking that the steps led to the actual trail, I started walking up the steps. It was not long until the steps stopped being steps and I ended up in an old Mexican man’s back yard. I had to ask him where the entrance to the lookout was and he told me to continue going up. I kept going and had come to realize that while the trail was not well defined, there was enough openings to be able to figure it out. However, had it been pitch black like my original, I would have been in a world of hurt and would have possible ended up in a ditch. I’m in average shape now, so it took me about 25 minutes to navigate the trail and I eventually arrived at the top in which I had to hop the guardrails to get on to the structure. The views were pretty nice as I could see up and down the coast of Puerto Vallarta. I hung out on top for about 20 minutes before making my way back down the official route. Turns out, while much safer, the official route probably would have been much more strenuous considering the amount of steps. This hike gives you a nice workout with a rewarding view at the top. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out Mirador de La Cruz if passing through Puerto Vallarta.

Very nice view of the city, especially during the evenings
Nov 2020
This is a beautiful observatory at the top of a hill, that is accessible part-way by car or full-way by climbing a steep set of stairs and ramps. The funicular is temporarily suspended due to the global disease. There are some cool neighborhoods along the climb and the night-time does get a bit sketchy with drunks and teenage love-makers prowling the area. But the views from the top are absolutely stunning, especially at sunset when the sun can be seen setting over the waters of the pacific ocean beyond the sprawling city. Easily walkable from downtown PVR. Definitely a MUST-DO during one of your late-afternoons and early-evenings in Puerto Vallarta.

Best View of PV
Nov 2020
Beautiful lookout of Puerto Vallarta and probably one of the best lookouts you'll find. To do this walk from Malecon, be in decent shape. It is straight up! And the lift is out of order (doesn't look like it has been used in a long time, cables broken, etc.). But if you can make it to the top, the view is beautiful! Spend some time up here to take in the views and enjoy.

A steep hike with a great view
Oct 2020
Today is our last day in Puerta Vallarta. There is a look out platform just up the street from where we have been staying. It is a very steep hill that turns into hundreds of steps. We got out early this morning, while it was still cool and finally hiked up there. It was well worth the climb!

Great view!
Oct 2020
This is a great hike to see the views of downtown PV, and north and south of the town. Highly recommended. Great spot to take pics! If you are in good shape, it may only take you 10-15 minutes to reach to top.
