Real de Catorce Is a magnificent and charming little town in the mountains of San Luis Potosi, very near Matehula. I love the history, the culture and the warmth of the people. My husband and I were there for a day on a long weekend during the Thanksgiving Holiday in November 2016. It was cold and breezy but we still... More

Real the catorce is a gem in the dessert. It's a magical little town in the mountains of San Luis Potosí. We did the Willis and definitive I would recommend. It's a cozy and rustic, lovely little town.

Once a very small town in ruins that has been discovered for better or worse. I lived there for four years in the nineties in a house built in the 1700's Things changed slowly. The local eateries grew and became more numerous as the town grew from six hundred to a thousand. Many ex-pats, Swiss, Italian, German, and so forth... More

A very nice place hidden in the desert. The cobblestone road winding up the mountain and the narrow tunnel helps keep it isolated. It was cold but beautiful in this town. We had no TV, cell phone service or central heat but it was nice.

Being there made me wonder about how the town was a hundred years ago when was the biggest town in the area, when there was a full population and the place was working and people have a different life, the graveyard, the church, the food, i like the place.

Hill tops in Mexico can be very enticing. Real de Catorce is a wonderfull town to visit. It takes a bit of work to get there but once there it is a quite town with views of the surrounding hills (10,000 feet). A very peaceful place to get away.

My friend drove me there, she is Mexican and has done a great amount of experimental drugs for her artistic endeavours. The place was magical without the drugs, lots of hippies living there. I had severe altitude sickness because it is high up in the mountains, an old town from the 16th century that used to be a mining town.... More

As I was told from one of the guides Real de Catorce was a mining town that grew up to 35,000 habitants. Then the mine went empty of silver and the town was almost abandoned. There is not many things to do in the town but it tells a history. Also the horseback riding and the “Jeep” adventures are really... More
