Located in an upscale neighborhood, walk through Diego Rivera and Freda Kahlo's homes and studios. This is before they moved to Casa Azul (Blue House).

It's an extremely rare treat to see where great artists lived and worked. Thankfully, the home of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo exists and is well maintained. The grounds consists of three buildings: Diego's house/studio, Frida's house/studio, and third building (visitors?). It's a great piece of architecture. The studio of Rivera is well-maintained and you can almost hear his footsteps... More

I really enjoyed this museum duo, despite the crowds at Museo Frida Kahlo. The Anahuacalli is amazing, a real gift from Diego Rivera to the people of Mexico and the world, do not miss that portion. We took a tour bus offered at the Casa Azul with "Tourister", this was only offered in Spanish, so many English speakers miss out... More

A great visit, I have no idea why this place has so many fewer visitors than the blue house but it makes for a far better experience. Nice neighbourhood too.

It's cool to say I was there. Unfortunately Frida's house was closed and the only part you could enter was Diego's studio. Note: this location is across the street from San Angel Inn which is one of the ritzy hotels worth checking out.

The Studio is located in San Angel, but worth a visit if you are in the surrounding area. Although there are limited works here, there are plenty of mache sculptures, photographs and artifacts. The studio provides insightful look into the work space for Frida and Diego. As a result of remote location it isn't busy, but worthwhile endeavour. Please note... More

Another of my '1,001 buildings you must see before you die', these two structures joined by a footbridge are delightful, small, functionalist homes which offer a glimpse into the life of both artists. I visited on a Sunday and it was free entrance. To get there, I walked from Barranca del Muerto (line 7) through the peaceful and safe residential... More

We went to Frida and Diago's house and were slightly disappointed that two of the three buildings were under construction and we were not able to enter them. We were only able to look in Diago's quarters. Photos outside were free and photos inside cost an extra 30 peso, well worth it if you ask me. The cat is fence... More

Must see for architects etc. No lines. 30 pesos each to get in. Frida's house was under reconstruction but Diego's house and Juan Gorman's house are both open. Allot 1+ hours at this location.

Being a huge fan of Frida and Diego's for many years, I could not wait to see their residences. Went to Frida's house first and that was great. On my last day in Mexico City, I visited this museum which I did not know at first was actually Diego and Frida's first house that they shared during their first marriage... More

Neighbourhood Profile
San Angel
San Ángel is known for its artistic vibe and elegant details displayed throughout its streets, antique residences and haciendas where famous actors like Consuelo Velázquez, Capulina and other prominent families used to live and that have now been turned into beautiful galleries, cafés and restaurants. An array of cultural and artistic activities are organized in the neighborhood, but it is on Saturdays when the San Jacinto Plaza and surroundings really shine as artists gather to exhibit a variety of arts and crafts, from paintings to clothing.
