Very nice old church

We were surprised by the beauty of this old church! Highly decorated walls and ceilings. You can see the several European influences in this church.

The church is not worth a drive from downtown, but as you're strolling around Coyoacan it is certainly worthwhile to take a few minutes to admire the exterior of the church viewed from Plaza Hidalgo, and spend a few minutes inside.

We loved this church which is next to the main plaza in Coyoacan, we watched a couple getting married and loved it. We recommend to take pics of the architectural towers and the paintings. They sell rosaries outside the door, great for pics.

If there is one icon to define the colonial neighborhood of Coyoacan, there is no better candidate than the facade of San Juan Bautista. One of Mexico's first churches, San Juan Baustista (English: St. John the Baptist) is perhaps the center of Coyoacan. Behind the towering yet simple facade that became the symbol of Coyoacan, the church interior presents a... More

The parish church of San Juan Bautista is located at the edge of the Plaza Hidalgo in Coyoacán. It is a wonderful example of Mexican colonial baroque with richly decorated, colorful interior that's typical of Mexico City churches. The entry is free, but please be respectful as it is a working church and most people within are actually praying. What... More

During our "Our Lady of Guadalupe" Pilgrimage, 2016, my friends and I tried to go to Mass every morning. Seeing that Mass was supposed to be at 8 a.m., we arrived a few minutes before to look at the building and pray. Unfortunately there was a very loud speaker playing something that didn't sound prayerful, over and over. It was... More

This has to be one of the most beautiful building interiors I have seen throughout Mexico City and one of the loveliest that I have seen in Europe or Latin America. The baroque beauty is a balanced composition of grandeur, delicacy and colour without slipping into anything garish or gaudy. As a quiet and sacred place it is something wonderful... More
