The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca. Planting began in 1998 with plants coming from different regions in the state of Oaxaca; such as arid, humid, low tropical and high mountainous temperate zones. The garden represents the broad diversity of geological formations, types of vegetation and climates that characterize Oaxaca.

Such a beautiful, quiet place in the city! The guided tour took a while but I learned a lot about the different plants native to Oaxaca.

The tour of this place was super interesting, talking about both unusual Oaxacan plants but also their uses to the indigenous peoples. It's also super beautiful!

We could actually not get in, as access is only with a conducted tour. These tours are at specific times fro English and Spanish speakers and there is one English tour per day. There is no way to walk around the gardens at leisure

To visit the garden, you must take a tour at a scheduled time. There are no signs, so a tour makes sense. Our guide was Gina who speakers both English and Spanish fluently. Gina may be the true gem!
