The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca. Planting began in 1998 with plants coming from different regions in the state of Oaxaca; such as arid, humid, low tropical and high mountainous temperate zones. The garden represents the broad diversity of geological formations, types of vegetation and climates that characterize Oaxaca.

You must have a guide which ruined the garden for me. The guide takes 2 hours to talk you through the plants of the garden. This is way too long. While the garden is beautiful, it would be one million times better to be able...More

We absolutely loved the garden. The varieties of cacti were incredible and just gorgeous. However the tour was just 1 hour too long. No amount of stories about these plants are that interesting especially in the heat of the sun. They should really cut it...More

This garden is fascinating, well managed, a very worthwhile visit to learn about climate and other geographic concerns being addressed in Mexico.

The tour wasn't bad, it was informative, if a little slow. My husband pointed out that he really didn't need a 20 minute lecture on corn because he went to college in Iowa. I, on the other hand, am from the east coast and know...More

Nice garden in the middle of Oaxaca. But we weren't allowed to tour on our own. We had to take a tour with a guide. They have tours in a few languages, but its pretty inconvenient to only be able to take a tour and...More

Every plant native to Oaxaca is supposed to be here. For the best experience hire a guided and be prepared to spend some time.

I saw the botanical garden from above—looking down from the cultural center that borders it and found it to be very beautiful. That being said, I decided not to pay the 100 MXN to enter the garden itself.

Can’t say enough good things about this tour! By chance we attended on our first day in Oaxaca and it was truly a fascinating orientation to the cultures, history and biology of the region. The gardens are stunning and I can’t think of a more...More

This incredibly stunning cacti botanical garden has been so well kept and taken care of. I could of stood in the sunshine looking at the view all day. A very calm, meditive and relaxing space.

We had the director of the garden, Mr. Alejandro de Avila, as our English garden “lecture” tour which lasted about 3 hours. I added “lecture” because the tour is mainly an important talk about the people, the culture, the livelihood, the history, the politics ,...More
