If you are visiting Dzibanche, be sure to see this pyramid afterwards. While there is only one ruin to really explore at location it is a very impressive one. At the top you can see 360 degrees over the whole area.

Kinichna was the third Mayan ruins we visited. It was nice and quiet. There were no other visitors! We ate lunch at the top which allowed for a great view and breeze. This is the smallest ruin in the area so skip it if you're tight on time.

When leaving Dzibanche, you will see one of the two structures at Kinichna from the roadside. The other structure is when you arrive a few kilometers further a rather large unearthed structure. The fee for this entry has been included with the entry fee paid at Dzibanche.

The owner of the La Posada Chetumal Hostel arranged this taxi tour for me. The tour included Kohunlich, Dzibanche and Kinichna and my share of the taxi came to 300 pesos. By the end of the day, I was very tired but thoroughly glad that I had undertaken this adventure. The three sites have some similar features as well as... More

Kinichna is about 50 kilometers west of Chetumal on highway 186 headed towards Escarcega. Coming from Chetumal, you turn right onto a paved road with a few large potholes and some nasty long and tire-wide cracks that look like they are from an earthquake. About 10 kilometers up the road, a smaller paved road turns off to the right and... More

Kinichná is just a few miles from Dzibanché, and in fact you buy one ticket to see the two sites. Not much in the way of structures at Kinichná -- just one huge pyramid, with three levels. Still, it's worth a visit if you're out this way -- and the views from the top are fantastic!

If you're visiting Chetumal, then I would recommend visiting this small site located near the Maya ruins of Dzibanche.
