Please read before you waste your money. Tourists to them are nothing but cash cows. Lies, miscommunication, hidden fees and a very rude guide named Avelino to go along with it all.

You pay $20 extra on top of $70 to have breakfast, snacks and free drinks throughout the ride. Well, breakfast was a ham and cheese sandwich with a bottle of water, no snacks at all and drinks were served only at each stop. I only had 4 beers throughout the whole trip. We were hungry, walking through the hot rocks of Tulum, and jungle of Coba until 2:30 in the afternoon with just a sandwich and a bottle of water. If I had known I would have had at least a cup of coffee and some eggs before we left. That was just the beginning. On the bus you realize that you have to buy more stuff aside from the ticket. First you are forced to buy a bug repellent for MXN 200 (about $13) so you don't harm the environment, or so they say. Then in Coba if you want to reach the ruins you need to rent either a bike for MXN 65 (one person) or a taxi bike for MXN 120 (two people). If you decide to walk they get mad and keep hurrying you up. We decided to walk, since we are not made of cash so I was exhausted by this time. Meanwhile they were offering mayan birth certificates for MXN 400. I was actually moved by the speech until he said the price then it hit both me and my wife that it was another push down our throats. The buffet was included but they hassle you for tips so I gave them MXN 100 because at least the food was good. But then another trap: Shaman giving cleansing so we can enter the cave, at least that is what we were told. To me it was more of way to make you buy their overpriced stones for protection at MXN 750 each bracelet, wow. Did not buy the bracelets and the shaman got really mad, which I really did not care.

Once at the cave, if you wanted to swim you needed the life vest and of course its not included, which is another MXN 50 for about 15-30 minutes which is how long the cave swim lasts. Aside that you need a towel and dry clothes to get on the bus so you don't freeze... yeah no one told me that either, not surprised, but no problem because they rent towels for MXN 50... who did not see that coming? Still, I didn't have dry clothes so I froze anyway on the way to Playa del Carmen, which we were given only 30 minutes to visit and Ave, the guide, said if we were not back in time they would leave us behind.

Ave, the guide, was rude to my wife, to tourists in and out of the group. He was extremely rude to an old lady who asked for help, literally telling her he could not help her because she was not part of his group. In the end they hassled us some more for tips, passing the basket down the isle grabbing yet more money from everyone. Except from me, my wife and our friend, which I could tell they did not like very much, but I really did not care anymore. I was tired, angry and done giving them money for nothing. Worst experience of my 49 years of age and $90 bucks down the toilet for each one there.

We were picked up at the hotel at 7 am and we reached the Mayan Village at 12:30. The main tour was chichen itza but we spent most of our time in the Mayan Village where they are trying to sell overpriced obsidian stone “for healing and protection”. We understand that the Mayans need to make a living but the entire place is just ridiculous they ask for tips for every single thing, even with just using the washroom.
The asking for tips are not even subtle as they say it explicitly such as: “the drinks are $125MXN not including the tips”. When you are about to exit the place there will be a person at the exit asking for the tips.

The lunch is only 30 mins but we spent almost 2 hrs in the village most of this time spent on “shopping time “ and we are unable to eat even though the lunch is at the same place because it’s still time to shop.

The entire tour was a ripped off asking and promoting us to buy the stones instead of talking about chichen itza and cenote.

Waste of time and money.

We went to Chichen itza at around 2:30 and the temple was really a sight to see. It was really hot though at 3pm, it may have beeb better early in the morning or around evening.

We only had an hour at the cenote unfortunately as most of the day is already spent in the mayan village. An hour is not enough to enjoy and swim in this wonderful place. The tour guide said that we will be asked what bug spray we use and “off” is not welcome as this can kill the fishes in the cenote, that may be true, but we were not asked about that at all. He probably said that to sell their bug spray for $10.

Valladolid is a park with a touch of Spanish influence nothing spectacular in my opinion. It was packed with people . They sell street foods and souvenirs.

All in all, I would say it’s better to rent a car instead of wasting 15-16hrs of your day in this trip. The entire tour is just not worth missing an entire day in the resort. It would have been better if the Mayan village was cut short, but spending more than 2 hours there is just not worth it.

The guides only have a pre-established speech, they take you to places where it is more expensive due to their commission, they take you to supposed Mayans who only want to sell you expensive things, the only beautiful and interesting place is a cenote and it is where the most They leave you for a short time because they don't sell anything that gives them commissions... They leave you off the bus without compassion, in my case I ran after the bus and even though they saw me they made me run approximately 60 meters... It's terrible experience.

My Wife and I booked the Chichen Itza trip from our hotel Golden Parnassus in Cancun.
The Baktun tour bus picked us up on time and we were warmly greeted getting on the bus by Jorge, Orlando ( Driver ) and Gabriel. We bought the deluxe trip which included lunch, water and beer for the trip to and from, FYI well worth the extra $20 for the deluxe trip. Jorge is extremely knowledgeable in the history of Chichen Itza and has a great sense of humor! The road trip to the site was fun, enjoyable and very educational. We were well informed of what to expect on each stop of the tour, and plenty of time was given to us to ask the crew any questions or concerns that we had. My Wife and I had a wonderful trip all and all and would highly recommend booking with Baktun tours. This specific tour is a long day, about 12 hours from start to finish but our guides made it fun and exciting. Baktun Tours is very professional, knowledgeable and treat their customers with a first class experience. Great job Jorge, Orlando and Gabriel, keep doing what you guys do best, thank you for a great experience!

Sincerely,
Nick and Miriam Karger

Just learn from mistakes made by others. Do yourself a favor and avoid them like plague. Everything you read from other reviews is true:

* 10 US $ for a mosquito repellant the you can buy for 3 when you get to tourist spots (and you don't even need it to be honest). The guide even puts a show for you when you get there. They will use an insane amount of repellant just to justify the fact that they made you buy one.

* when you get to lunch place they lie to you that you need to take a picture for safety reasons. They came back later with a bottle of overpriced alcoholic beverage with your picture on it and try to sell it to you.

* the lunch is so bad and everyone need to stay crowded. Safe god that because they were super late we had to eat at 3PM otherwise it would've been like eating cardboard.

* Mayan calendar marketed as something that would change your life. Charging 25$ for a piece of printed paper you can do for free online

* The shaman. He was supposed to heal everyone but around his place was full of garbage. He didn't even cleaned the place. Of course it was a charade.

* masks were mandatory on the bus be they didn't enforce it. There were like 6 persons that never wore one. They never said anything to them even if a lot of people complained.

Believe me, you would be way better with just burning the money instead of booking a tour with them.

Absolutely Terrible, DON'T DO IT, it's a huge tourist trap! My family and I spent over 10hrs in this trip, it's a huge waste of time, and money. They try to sell you everything and expect to tip everywhere and for everything? They immediately try to sell you a $10 dollar bottle of repellent, then they feed you a Mayan shaman story on the bus so you can buy a $200 dollar shaman "blessed" onyx Statue when you stop. Once at the town before you eat they take ALL your names so they can sell you a small drawing with you name on it, then you enter a shop (I bought a knife for $45 bucks but at the pyramid you can get it for like $10), they then take your picture which they try to sell to you at the end of the trip on a mini tequila bottle, then at the buffet the waiters start dancing then expect a tip (but won't get away from your table until you tip them), then they funnel you into some guys dressed and painted like warriors which they try to take a picture then expect a tip. Finally your only at the pyramids for like an hour barely and you better hurry cause they constantly threaten to leave you behind if you don't show up in time. Then followed by the Cenotes were you have to pay for a best and a locker (staff is also really rude, communicate poorly, are badly organized, and everything is congested. If your lucky you might get 15 minutes to swim in there. Then finally at the end of course, don't forget to tip them. This is my second time doing this but I highly recommend doing a private shuttle but you'll need 10-14 people. I paid a little more but we moved at our convenience and we only tipped twice, once for dinner and second for our driver. With a private shuttle we easily didn't 2+hours at the pyramid and the same for the cenote without being rushed. DON'T DO IT!

We bought this tour while visiting mercado 28, we got a much better deal than advertised on the website which is nice.

We did the 4x1 tour including Tulum, Coba, a Cenote, and Playa del Carmen. The day was jam packed but I didn't feel overly rushed or pressured to buy throughout the day despite what other reviewers say. It could be that our guide for the day was just less pushy or perhaps that our tour was mostly local tourists and only a handful of international tourists?

My largest complaint was the bus itself as my partner is a tall person and literally did not fit in the seats as they were so close together. Even for me at 5'6 it was a close fit for my legs.

The shaman was a neat experience though definitely felt more towards being a push to get more $$. That being said they were also not overly pushy after we said no gracias.

Daniel, Ivan, and our driver (sorry I forget your name) offered a full day of information which we did appreciate!

¡Gracias amigos!

Worst tour guide ever!!! Honestly do not book it find another company. Not only is it a tours trap and take you to all these places that really have no purpose besides making you but stuff every location we actually wanted to send time at they cut the time short. To begin with in the morning they made us wait 40-50 mins for two passengers that woke up late / were not on the bus. When we we at the cenotes they rushed everyone out not allowing ppl to purchase the photos they had taken by the photographers. The tour guide Mili also a pain and the worst attitude she was not only rude to the guest also told us she was going to leave us at the town if we didn’t board the bus. Don’t not book this tour company.

I can agree with other reviews of this tour. It is basically a cash cow for the operator. Yes it is relatively inexpensive compared to others but we now know why.

Hotel pickup at 7pm and returned to hotel after 9pm. This is far too long a day changing and waiting for buses. We wanted to go to Chichen Itza, the other places were secondary. In hindsight a trip to Chichen Itza would take not longer than 6 or 7 hours not the 14 hour long day we encountered.

The bus guides and driver were pleasant and informative but there was too much info to sell products especially leading up to the staged venue for lunch. The lunch itself was nice.

The Chichen Itza guide was very good and knew his stuff and answered any questions that were asked. It is a very interesting historical site, just a shame there are too many traders selling the usual touristy wears. For a place like that it should not be permitted to set up shop literally meters away from the ruins I.m.o.

The cenote was an experience but again not my reason for going on the trip.

In hindsight I would have rented a car or a small group personal driver/guide and visited the places we wanted to.

This is the tour company for you if you would like to sit on a coach for 3 hours with seats so crammed together it would put the world’s most budget airlines to shame.

As a slim person, I could hardly fit in the seat without the seatbelt digging in to my hip, and my knees were shoved against the seat in front, and the seat backs right in our faces.

I queried this and was told (a big fat lie) by a very arrogant and surly employee that this was only the transfer coach and that the main coaches would be bigger. Well that was a load of b/s.

After the horrible demeanour of the woman in charge of our bus and still unable to get comfortable in the tiny seats, we decided to give this a miss and make our own way another time.

Perhaps the rest of the tour was great, but I imagine not given the other comments about only getting 40 minutes at the Cenote and only 20 minutes for the entire lovely town of Valladolid, so we felt very pleased to have spent a great morning at the beach instead rather than a horrible 3 hours to the first stop with our knees up around our ears.

The fact that the check in point is in a big tourist shop and that we were handed discount vouchers as soon as we stepped inside no doubt set the scene for what would have been to come.

These people are typical of the tourist-trap companies in Cancun who treat people like dirt on the basis that they are only passing through and likely will never be seen again. Appalling.
