Bienvenido! to Josefina's Cocina con Alama. "Alma" the word for soul in Spanish is how authentic Mexican cooking begins. We invite you to explore and taste the many wonders of Mexcian cuisine through hands-on instruction with the wonderful cook & chef, Josefina. Join Josefina in her Cozumel home and kitchen for a day to learn how to make regional Yucatecan delights as well as other Mexican dishes. The class is designed for those that want a "taste" of Mexican culture (you will even get to visit the local market). It is set up for all ages to enjoy, yet comprehensive enough for those avid cooks looking to hone and learn new skills. Be prepared to eat as you will cook a feast suited for the Mayan gods!

We had a great time with Luis. He showed us the backyard and then took us to the market to buy some produce. We then went back to the class where we learned how to clean a cactus. Otherwise, what was a bit disappointing was that not much else was very hands on, except cutting a few vegetables. I had... More

My 13-year-old daughter and I took this class as a personally-booked off-shore excursion from our cruise when Josefina was leading the class and tour. The home was thankfully away from the tourist area, and easy to find. After arriving we went on a walking tour of a market the locals use that we would not have normally seen and discovered... More

So much fun learning about authentic Cozumel cuisine. I feel comfortable preparing new creations by the guidance of our chef, Luis. I attended the class alone but was accompanied by 4 others that were there with a cruise. We visited a local market & picked out our items. Shopping there was so interesting- really experienced how the locals shop. I... More

I surprised my sister and brother in law with a culinary delight. We arrived and Luis explained all we were going to do. We headed to the market to buy our supplies. Stopped at a tortilla factory and sampled fresh tortillas. Wow. Loved the market experience. (We actually went back the next day to explore and buy some pottery to... More

The class consisted of me and my wife. We met Luis and he showed us the backyard where they grow various herbs and have some citrus trees. After explaining the class, Luis took us to the local market where he bought items for our meal. We choose chicken and the vendor was amazing cutting up a whole chicken as we... More

Cooking was exactly as advertised: easy to find in safe residential neighborhood, English spoken, walked to market & got fresh meat & vegetables, saw the tortilla factory & tasted a fresh hot tortilla, 9 people in class, clean lovely space, hands on instruction, great fresh food & best fresh squeezed margaritas ever! So much better than a crowded cruise excursion!

On our one day in Cozumel on our recent cruise, my chef husband and I had a great "foodie" day at Josefina's Cocina Con Alma, first shopping in a local market, and then learning to cook a variety of delicious Mexican dishes, many of which were delightfully new and unfamiliar to us, and finally enjoying the yummy fruits of our... The class started with a trip to the local market. We were expecting a tour of the market and an intro to some of the local foods. However, we basically all just stood around waiting for our chef to buy the ingredients on his own. There was no interaction or education. It was a waste of time. As for the... More

The people were nice, the food was good, but certainly not worth $80 per person. The man teaching the class was pleasant enough, but not a chef. Much of what was made was made in the kitchen behind the scenes, including some of the more complicated aspects of the dishes which would have been nice to know how to make.... More

Hi Anna! Thank you for sharing your experience - we certainly are sad to hear that you were disappointed with your class. However, we do appreciate that you took the time write a review. The Josefina Cooking School welcomes many people in a class (and often from 7 different cruise ships a day and other places on the island as... More
