San Miguel is a wonderful city on the island of Cozumel. There are so many shops and restaurants to visit. My best advice is to practice saying No thank you, or Not interested so you are ready for the high pressure salesmen as you walk down the street in the tourist areas. Another piece of advice is to get away... More

Downtown San Miguel is a lot of fun to walk around. There are many quaint and colorful alleys and streets filled with shops and restaurants. It is a more modern version of the colonial towns on the Mexican mainland but still authentic. Go shopping and grab some dinner here!

Of course this is a tourist town and with that being said, buyer beware. There are shops that are not on the up and up and there are shops that are reasonable and provide a generous selection of merchandise to purchase.

We visited San Miguel as a cruise ship port of call. It's the main town on the island of Cozumel. We spent some time in both the touristy areas (the first couple blocks from the ocean) and a little further out (once you get a few blocks away) in areas that seemed more frequented by the locals, like the market.... We had a great day in town the shops were amazing. When you go to town they drop you at the dock, don't buy anything until you walk down a vit cause it half the price down the street. People are super friendly.

San Miguel is really the only town in Cozumel, and although this cruise port stop is filled with fun shops and restaurants, walk down some side streets and see the real local areas. Then you can return home and describe more than the more upscale touristy sections. We felt safe doing this and very much enjoyed walking around the older... More

We love COZUMEL for the sun, diving, awesome service, shopping, and safety! San Miguel is a great place to shop! You can find just about anything! From fine jewelry and perfume to clothing to hand made art, pottery, and gifts and of course, souvenirs galore. Food and drink! Food is great and drinks are plenty. Everyone speaks English so no... After all I had read about this town, I expected to find a charming place. But instead I found a town with the same tourist shops as in Playa del Carmen but on a smaller scale.

San Miguel is a wonderful town with many sights to see. One should get off Avenida Melgar AT LEAST 4-5 blocks east if interested in seeing more of the local culture. It is very safe and friendly!! I have walked alone all over town without any concerns.
