Unless you like endless streets filled with the same tourist trap cheap souvenir shops and hounded by hawkers every few steps. A huge disappointment that wasn't worth the time or money to get there from Riviera Maya. By far the only thing worthwhile here was...More

We took the paid ($15 each) shopping trip to Playa Del Carmen, where they drive you there and let you shop on your own for about 2 hours. There are definitely a lot of shops, but I don't like dickering for items, so I did...More

We are not big shoppers but wanted to go into playa for the experience. The shopping itself was nothing special but we are glad we went to see what it was like. It is true about the vendors calling out to you by your hotel...More

It gets really tiresome to tell people "no, gracias" over and over, but the street is full of people just constantly trying to get you to come in to buy some of the cheap tourist stuff. If you don't answer, or don't smile, you will...More

Our travel agent suggested we stay at Playa Del Carmen (I'd never heard of it) and we're SO glad she did. We stayed in The Thompson Hotel right in the middle of 5th Avenue and were pleasantly surprised how much fun this whole area was....More

It's ok. Typical Mexican tourist area. Just bigger. Fun at night. Lots of performers. If they say they know you from your resort, they don't. They just recognize the wristband.

We loved the beaches, the sea, the food in Playa del Carmen but 5th Avenue was a bit too commercialised. Lots of tacky souvenir shops, loud bars, and aggressive hawkers - generally most annoying at the North end of 5th Avenue, near the pier. This...More

We were on vacation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in October, 2017 when I purchased a ring from this store.. A man walked up to my husband and I and said that he'd recognized us from the resort, in fact, he was the waiter at...More

5th Avenue is pretty cool, and I would definitely recommend it. We were there last summer, and we stayed at an all-inclusive resort. When you stay at the resorts, you wear a wrist band. The vendors on 5th Avenue look for the folks with wrist...More

I would definitely recommend seeing fifth avenue while you are in playa del Carmen. Lots of shop, restaurants and bars. A great walk in the evening. I enjoyed my stayed in playa del Carmen more than Cancun because of fifth avenue.

It was when we were there in November. It's a very touristy place so all the craft vendors will most certainly be there on a Sunday! They all want you to come to their little shop to buy things 'amigo almost free'... Ha, ha... More
