I went from Gubeikou to Jinshanling via the wild section, impressive, fantastic, wow, I think i do not describe it enough how great it is to walk all the way. At the end, we even see the marathorn at the great wall, which is an additional bonus to us. It has many people here, but at least not over-crowded. You... More

I went on a sunset tour of the Great Wall at Jinshanling, and I was so happy to find the wall nearly deserted. We barely ran into anyone else during the two hours that we hiked along the wall, and we had so many great photo opportunities. Because it's further out from Beijing, it's not as busy as the other... Jinshanling is located at around 150 kilometers from Beijing and is known as less crowded compared with other sections. On the day we went there it was very crowded at the beginning because of a local feast and after it was OK. The views are really impressive and it is definitely a place to visit.

The Jinshanling section of the Great Wall is 2.5 hours drive from Beijing and is 10 km long. Entrance costs 65 yuan and there is a cable car with costs another 60 yuan for both ways, and 40 for just the ride up. This section of the wall is not crowded and is great for photos. We used a local... More

If you want to have parts of the Wall to yourself, hike here. This is a great place to put in and spend most of the day on the Wall. It is very very steep and slippery in some areas so wear proper shoes. Bring water and wear a hat.

This section of the great wall is set in the most amazing mountains. It is mostly left unrestored. I could spend days just hiking the wall and enjoying the outdoors here. Easily one of my favorite experiences in China. This is the nature-lovers alternative to the tourist areas of the Great Wall. Reach it via the 8:00 a.m. bus from... More

We, a family group of 6, visited the Great Wall at Jinshanling on March 9, and we can't say enough good things about it. The weather was perfect for hiking - sunny and cool, but not too cool. We started out at the west entrance and were initially joined on the 20-minute trail hike up to the wall by a... More

This has been my favorite section of the wall we have visited so far. I liked that Mutianyu was closer with the options for the cable car and toboggan but the Jinshanling section gave some spectacular views of the wall breaking off into different sections. This part of the wall is farther away from the city (1 1/2 hours) but... More

A long drive of about 2 hours from Beijing without traffic jams as we went on a Sunday. A long walk from the car park to the wall, mostly uphill. Once on the wall, views were incredibly breathtaking. Since Simatai section is closed, we walked from Houchuankou Pass past Shalinkou Pass to Zhuanduokou Pass. We then backtracked to the fork... More

Wow! What an experience!! We booked a tour for this area via our hostel. We hiked 7km (4 miles). It was very difficult because it's steep and this area has not been reconstructed. But it's a great hike with great views!!! Highly recommend this part of your adventurous and love a good workout!
