I regularly use Viarail to travel Ottawa-Toronto route for business, as do many people. In the newer cars, they have reconfigured the seating so that over half the seats face backwards, and many are facing each other. So if you prefer to sit facing the direction of travel, and/or travel alone and prefer not to be in a group of... More

Despite the four hour delay getting on the train, and the twelve hours it took from Kamloops to Vancouver it was well worth it. The food is amazing and the wine pairing is fabulous. Would recommend getting a sleeper car or cabin if going for more than one night. As well as bring your own pillow and blanket if travelling... More

Riding Via rail from Ottawa to Toronto in one of the new redesigned cars is the worst! The new seats are very uncomfortable!!! After an hour my bum is completely numb and my back is aching because the seats are so terrible It is no longer worth travelling by train now. Whoever approved this new design did not bother to... We traveled from Windsor to Toronto on Sat, March 11. We arrived at the train station about 15-20 before our departure time. The waiting area is not that big. There was a monitor showing upcoming departures. About 10 min before departure, there was an announcements to prepare to board. We began loading onto the train. The train was very nice... More

Would pick the train over 5 hours with two middle schoolers any day. Did the Toronto to Montreal route over march break... staff were helpful and amusing. Train itself was likely on its last legs but it was still better than battling 401 traffic and cranky kids. Book early for deals and seats! Ours was full.

We took the train from Toronto to Montreal instead of a car or a plane and it was absolutely the right decision. Probably took in the end the same amount of time door to door (when factoring in checkin, security, boarding times, travel out to the airport and back into the city at the destination) but was sooo much more... My son and I took this trip in 2003. The purpose of the trip was to repeat the trip my family made from Halifax to Vancouver in 1956. I was able to visit Pier 21 where we first landed as immigrants from Germany. My mom wore heels and a suit, and all 4 of us under 10 made that journey.... More

I am always finding something different to comment on on Trip Advisor so this review is a long time coming. There are a few recent negative reviews on here but I can only go by the experience my husband and I had albeit a few years ago now. A few years ago whilst on a 4 week holiday to Canada... More

My family and I had the most awful Via Rail experience. An unwell family member mistakenly booked a ticket from Cornwall (Ontario) to Edmonton for $800. Even though my family member was unwell, and not fully aware of what she was doing, we were unable to refund the trip and only got half back as credit. Furthermore, when we tried... More

I was in business class from toronto toMontreal. Its not normal that it takes 1:30 min after departure to get first drink service. My kids were so thirsty and they keep taking forever to serve us. And dont expect to get more then 2 services in the whole 5 hours trip! Unbelievable!
