As an old railway track it's a nice gentle way of warming up (starting at New Mills in our case) before the rigours of the ascent of Kinder.

An enjoyable walk from Hayfield to New Mills and across the Millennium Walkway, provided your not averse to being high up over the river Goyt! Worth the effort to see a Heron catching fish. Steep climb up to the rail station. Would have taken train back to Hayfield but our walk was unfortunately on a Sunday; limited service. New Mills... More

The trail starts of a little dull at the New Mills end to be honest and also a little hilly. After a while though the scenery improves and the area around Birch Vale reservoir is stunning. The trail ends in the beautiful village of Hayfield at a large carpark and bus stop. The visitor centre was closed when we visited... More

Stayed in Hayfield and walked to New Mills using the Sett Valley Trail. It's 2.5 miles each way. Not too muddy but boots would be recommended. There's a cafe half way in Birch Vale however, it's only open Wed - Sun. Lovely walk, lovely views of Kinder, Birch Vale reservoir etc Quite flat (used to be a railway line) Recommended

This trail is great for those who want to have a reasonable walk without the hills. From Hayfield into New Mills it is somewhere between 3-3.5 miles long. Very pleasant walk and some lovely views.

Great place for a walk with the children and dogs. Just needed plenty of water to keep cool in the warm weather. Nice scenery to enjoy during a leisurely stroll.

Living local to this area it's a lovely place to walk, especially the little nature reserve The only thing that spoils it is the piles of plastic dog poop filled bags left behind by dog walkers!!! What's the point of picking up the dog mess to then dump the bag on the trail? You will pass bins at some point,... More
