There’s no comparing the emerald green waters of Minnewanka with any urban landscape. Mountain ridges stretch as far as the eye can see, eventually blurring into a blissful cascade of colours.

The meaning of the name Lake Minnewanka is Water of the spirits, located in Alberta's Banff National Park 24 km north. You need to buy the day pass to park and enjoy the area, parking free with the pass. Calm clear beautifully glacial fed lake.

The glacial action that created this "lake" was apparent. It might be overstating the fact by describing this lake as beautiful though it could be to a geologist

This lake is about 25 km long. We had a really good experience renting a boat 1 hour to explore the lake. The lake is obviously not as clear blue ad Moraine or Louise, but it’s definitely really pretty. You can go there from Banff...More

Went to see the lake and ended up taking a kayak out on this beautiful lake. It was calm, clear and the color was like I was in the Caribeans. Park staff are friendly and there is good trails near lake. A must see!!

A picturesque lake . We took the cruise and the guide kept us informed of its history and wild life. We saw a flock of big horned sheep in the rest area where we took the bus back to Banff

Short drive from Banff to this area. Beautiful with mountains and forest surrounding the lake, recommend taking your time and walk around and take some photographs of this area. Parking is available with restrooms, picnic tables, beach area, boating and trails for hiking.

We were there early June and rented 3 boats for the adults and the children. The lake is beautiful and we truly enjoyed the hour we spent there. It wasn’t crowded so we had the lake to ourselves!

This should be a nice round drive for visitors to this area, especially when they are paying thousands to come on holiday when in season or not! However due to Parks Canada doing too much work at once it is not very good. With both...More

You will need one. It’s well off the beaten path, but worth it.
