The trail is just a block away from downtown Banff and miles apart in experience. It is a short hike, but you could link up with the trail around Vermillion Lake. The trail is well tended and clearly marked. Takes about 30 minutes to do the loop. A few photo ops along the way too. We got there right after... More

Marsh trail starts just below Cave and Basin parking lot. Trail goes out towards bow river at start. Mix of marsh and woodland. Trail was rutted where used by horses and could be muddy if wet but was dry and snow covered when we walked it. Joins up at far end with the Sundance trail with a wide paved pathway... More

Sharing the trail is wishful thinking on the loop. Picking the right shoes for this easy walk is essential. You'lll be zizzagging brtween heaps of horse droppings, so that if you need some manure for your garden, pack a small shovel and a sturdy bag! It is beyond me why the authorities in charge can't decide that horses would use one... More

A beautiful walk that took us along the Bow River and through the valley. A little muddy but that was to be expected. Otherwise a beautiful walk and beautiful scenery.

This is an easy trail which offers beautiful views of the mountains and the river BUT... since horses also use it, you will encounter lots of mud and manure along the way. The nice thing is that it's not one of the most popular trails around Banff and you will probably not encounter any bus groups here.

This was one of my favorite because of the view of the mountains and their reflection on the water. Watch out for all the mud and horse poop but it is worth it for sure.

The Marsh Loop Trail is an easy trail that starts and finishes at Cave and Basin National Historic Site. It’s a 2.3 km loop with half of it being a paved trail, the other half dirt. The half that’s paved is easily accessible for families with strollers, the second half is a shared trail with horses. The shared trail isn’t... More

This review is about the Sundance Canyon and Marsh loop trails. We hiked the Canyon trail from the Cave and Basin, and we hiked the Marsh loop on the way back from the canyon. The first 4 km of the Sundance Canyon trail is paved and thus is fully accessible, with part of the trail running alongside the Bow river.... More

Most of the trail is through uninteresting scenery, and it only becomes interesting along the Bow River. The guide book said that "You will be sharing the trail with equestrians." This turns out to be code for "You will stepping into a lot of horse manure." I would NOT recommend this trial at all. There are many more more beautiful... More
