Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

Get 'standing room' only tickets (last minute of course) and either watch at ground level or (take the elevator) to the top of the Grandstand and see the chuckwagon races from a higher prospective.

Very much fun stuff, some gambling, dog show is the best. Hope they have more chairs reserved for seniors as my mother often get tired because of knee problems and yes some seniors does not like to sit in wheelchair. Food is not on the top of my plate cause we are all vegetarians and most stuff they sell in... More

WOW talk about gouging. I have never felt more ripped off in my life. Every year the prices go up exponentially and it's so not worth it for a local. I say local because if you are coming out of town specifically to see this rodeo $hit show then you are probably expecting to be overcharged and if not well,... More

Having lived here since 2008, it took me years to finally attend Calgary Stampede - and solely because: (1) my husband had been wanting to go, (2) some friends wanted us to go with them, and (3) I figured we should attend it at least once. You're bound to find something to do... from rides, to games, to food/drinks, to... More

For ten days in July somewhere in the city there will be a free pancake breakfast. Most likely in more than one place. The city gets dressed up. People wear western dress. Stores banks and malls go western. Free food abounds. Every day there is a different theme at the stampede grounds - seniors get in free on Tuesday. The... More

Love this stampede and have been going for over 30 years minus some when we didn't live in Alberta. Love the rodeo especially...buy tickets on the beautiful dream home and always tour the inside. Baby donuts are a must. Hot fresh and delicious. Weadickville for sausage on a bun. Mckays ice cream cones. Listening to the music bands. Checking out... More
