Overview
More
Fort Calgary was founded in 1875 when the NWMP crossed the Bow River and laid the foundations for Calgary at the place where the Bow meets the Elbow River; land that has been sacred to the Blackfoot people for thousands of years. Today, Fort Calgary’s interpretive centre allows you to explore the rich heritage of Calgary and the RCMP. The large outdoor park area is a great way to enjoy the river landscape, and offers unique views of downtown Calgary. Fort Calgary offers meeting and event spaces, as well as special events on many holidays.

Part of the Calgary Stampede tradition... A great year for Canadians! Serena Ryder, Our Lady Peace and Corey Hart! If you are visiting for Stampede next year... check it out!

It was good to have a presentation with the video. Don't forget to try on the Mountie suit and take a picture.

I am a bit of a museum hound - and found Fort Calgary to be unique both in its history and the presentation - especially the time-line! They use a set of panels with "text like" messaging between the historic players - very clever. Upstair...More

We saw many artifacts and old ads, a gramophone, and scale that gave your weight and your fortune, and Underwood typewriter.

When I hear "Fort", I'm thinking old log fences and small shack buildings. This is more of a large museum. I thought there might be some outdoor exhibits as well, but for our visit everything was fenced off except the main building. The first set...More

If you're planning to visit with kids - spot on. If you're planning to visit as a solo adult, it might be worth coming with calibrated expectations. The museum clearly caters to kiddos - there was a special exhibition on the history of Calgary done...More

there are two areas in the Museum that are most interesting. The first was a room that told us about Treaty 7 (the area in and around Calgary) - both the good and the bad. I give kudos to the curator for not trying to...More

A quick tour of the exhibits in the museum was interesting but not overwhelmingly impressive. There really is nothing left of the actual fort itself. Fortunately, we were there on a day when there was no admission charge. However, as part of the Riverwalk and...More

We went here today, for free, as part of the Fort Calgary Canada 150 event. We had ever been, and I'm glad I didn't have to pay, as I felt unimpressed with the layout and content. I feel that the 'flow' while walking through is...More

Freshly made eggs Benedict, melt in your mouth crepes or eggs gaucho- these choices greeted us on the menu as we decided to have a belated Father's Day Brunch at the Fort Calgary Restaurant. When we walked in we were transported back in time to...More

There was a lovely young man who wasn't a "real Mountie" was very happy to get photographs with the public. You should go to the Calgary Stampede and watch an event the RCMP perform. They are all in full uniform and are very... More

The red serge is a ceremonial uniform and so we only see the Mounties dressed this way on special occasions. Fort Calgary is an historic site and interpretive museum with no resident serving Mounties.
