Our family has gone floating down the Elbow River a few times. It's great to start at Sandy Beach Park and then exit after the 4th street bridge. You are going to float past some of Calgary's premiere real estate so if you love looking at houses you will definitely be more than satisfied!

The area between 4th Street (26th Ave) and 1st Street -- the Elbow curves around -- beautiful views. The paths are fabulous for walkers and runners alike. Can't wait to see it in the summer!

A shallow river so safer for swimming and floating than the Bow. Last year there were some health warnings so don't swallow:) There are a few beach areas now that can be assessed if you know the spot to go. The easiest is probably just south of the 25th ave bridge that crosses the Elbow.

Fantastic pathways along this short but meandering river from the Glenmore Reservoir(Sandy Beach) to Inglewood were is meets the Bow River. There are various parks and neighbourhood that border this river.

In Calgary, the Elbow River is not quite as accessible to the public as the Bow River is. There is a pathway from the Glenmore Dam to Fort Calgary, where the Elbow River meets the Bow River. But there are many properties that flank the Elbow, and so the river is not always in view. There is a short stretch... More

I visited the Mission section at the end of 26th Avenue. Lovely pathways. On warm days people bring their kids, dogs and picnics to the gravel outcropping there. River is shallow at this point and many rafters end their day there. Great people watching.

This long weekend I had the chance to walk the winding paths along the Elbow river. Rafts floated down the lazy river while ducks would tag along and joggers ran past with their obedient dogs keeping pace. After finding a nice shady spot, the blanket was spread and a nice picnic was consumed. This can be a very cathartic experience... More

A quick 40 minute drive on highway 66 from the southwest quadrant of Calgary takes you into Bragg Creek, a small town with timber framed buildings and homes. Just beyond it you'll find a place to pull off the highway into a parking area that leads to a nice hike. The pathways are well groomed and doable for most abilities... More

The Elbow River flows west of Calgary and connects to the Bow River close to downtown. On a warm day a number of people bring floats and enjoy the river at twin bridges just west of Calgary close to the Discovery Ridge community. The river is a braided river flowing through channels it opens and closes as it meanders to... More
