Although we have driven past the Observatory countless times, and have seen it from the nearby Anne and Sandy Cross Conservancy, we had never taken the time to attend an event. But encouraged by friends who did, we set out to participate in one of...More

We went here as a class field trip, I was all excited with my love of outer space. I was hoping to look at the planets and learn new things about them and look through the giant telescope at distant galaxies and study our OWN...More

Went to their public night last night. It was overcast by the time we arrived, so viewing was no good, but, since it was our first time there, we toured the place a bit with a guide from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. He...More

A bit out of the way but well worth the trip. Located in the south of Calgary atop a hill, this observatory lacks any pretension. The director is very enthusiastic and very involved in stargazing.

Spent an evening with the resident astronomers a couple of time when they held open houses. Always fascinating looking through the various telescopes. Never had a truly dull lecture there yet. The parking can be a bit harsh on a busy night though. Get there...More

The Observatory is a branch of the University of Calgary and quite the place to bring young-uns to learn about the universe. The programs offered are interesting and educational. The location is close to the city, at the Priddis Corner area south-west of Calgary, and...More

The new Telus center is very nice but if you really want to step out and see something try Rothney. Bring warm clothes and bug spray and you will never be disappointed.

The Rothney Observatory is in a great location, not far from the city of Calgary, but far enough to have good dark sky viewing of the stars.. The Rocky mountains are to the west, and provide wonderful scenery in that direction. There are several Telescopes on...More

If your an avid astronomer, I would guess this is exactly what you were looking for, as a casual observer of the night sky, I was expecting something different. theres a lot of decently powered telescopes, and some cool things to see; but nothing fantastic.
