We stopped here after visiting Maligne canyon and all though the lake was mostly frozen it was still a spectacular view. We walked about 15 minutes on the trail that goes along the lake and it was quite nice to see all the birds swimming between all the cracks in the ice. This lake would definitely be much nicer in... This is where the Maligne River overflows with all that glacial melt, and the bath tub drains by late fall into other lakes and rivers via one of the most extensive underground systems of the world (this was discovered by using dye packs). They say the fishing is good. We saw the bald eagle that refused to leave during the... More

We were on a tour of the park, a perfect sunny day in May a few clouds and this little gem of a lake. The water was like a mirror reflecting the surrounding mountains with the clouds overhead. Lucky for us it was spring because the water does a disappearing trick by the end of summer .

Completely different from other lakes, but still very breath-takingly beautiful! Fascinating history and gorgeous views!

On our way to the Maligne Lake, we couldn't help but stop to see this beautiful lake, Medicine Lake. The indigenous people used to believe that this lake had a supernatural power, since they saw the water disappear by each October, but return by spring. There is no apparent reason, no waterway to take away the water. On our way... More

The lake was three quarters empty in mid Oct which was disappointing but a nice road trip on the way to Spirit Lake.Check before you book your tour as they won't tell you.

Compared to other lakes in the area, this is just ok. If you're driving from Jasper to Maligne Lake, you'll pass by here.

Lake vanishes when the water supply drain into underground caves - it's alongside the Lake Maligne road for several miles and full or empty provides excellent views and photo opps

This lake was included in the itinerary of our coach tour from Jasper. We stopped at one end and then continued along the road, which follows the shores for a considerable distance. At the small view point the water levels were very low and on the opposite side of the road the vegetation was all burnt from a fire two/three... More

We were shocked to see this lake with barely any water. There were a few streams running through it, but mostly it was dry and lifeless. We asked about it at the visitor center and they say it does this every year....empties and refills. Very interesting!
