Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience.

World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise.

The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

I have been on this lake cruise twice. It's a beautiful area and lake and I loved it both times I went. I was lucky enough to get clear sunny days, once in June and then September 2014. At the time, the price was reasonable but I have heard it is much higher now that Brewster has taken over the... More

This cruise is a must if you are staying in the Jasper area. It is quite a drive to the lake from the main highway, probably 45 minutes with the large amount of traffic. Try and take the early cruise or late cruise so that you can get better light for pictures. Spirit Island is worth the trip on its... More

Hi Stuart71, Thanks for your comments! You're right - the drive to Maligne Lake is lengthy but it's beautiful. During mid-day it can sometimes take up to an hour to get to the lake. My personal favourite time of day for lighting is in the evening but I've seen some fantastic morning shots as well. Hope to see you at... More

The cruise was okay. I'm not usually a fan of group activities with strangers, however, the views on the cruise were incredible and you wouldn't be able to access them any other way (unless you canoe on your own). As well, Spirit Island was pretty and of course is probably the most famous and photographed place in the Canadian Rockies.... More

Hi Steph M, It is a bit of a trek down the lake, as you mentioned. Canoeing to Spirit Island absolutely has its merits (and most of our staff have been lucky enough to do it in their spare time) but we think the cruise is a lovely way to see the lake, too. I would agree that it's a... More

Nice lake and a nice boat trip to the litte island in the Maligne Lake. It's a nice trip with the boat and if you arrive the destination you can shoot photos like a postcard.

An average cruise on a pretty lake, it takes you a short way where you get off walk up a short track which winds back to where you started. Then you get back on for a short trip back to shore. This was part of a bigger tour we were on & not something we chose. Not worth the money... More

We highly recommend this cruise, a well run operation by Brewster Tours at the Maligne Lake Day Lodge not far outside the town of Jasper. Our captain and guide (Maureen) were both women and excellent (go, Brewster!). The classic cruise lasts about 90 minutes. Maligne Lake is the largest glacier fed lake in the Rockies. It is turquoise blue and... More

If you are looking for a relaxing way to spend a day in Jasper then Maligne Lake cruise is perfect for that - lots of opportunity to take in the surrounding. The cruise makes a stop at a small island where you can get out and take photos etc. Great views of Mount Assiniboine too - highly recommend.

The views on this lake cruise are spectacular. You are surrounded by mountains on a beautiful lake and end up at Spirit Island, an icon view of Canada. I plan on taking anyone who visits me in the summer there. The drive up to the docks is pretty amazing too.
