historical place

Interesting to learn history and some artefacts to see. Small kids would likely not be as interested. Lots of people visiting mnostly to launch boats on the river :)

This place has buildings only made of wood. You can only be outside for most of it. I really like this park to be improved.

We visited Fort Normandeau with family while on a visit from our BC home. The location is extremely pleasant - a nice park-like setting right beside the river. However, the historical presentation is every bit as worthwhile - we learned a great deal about early settlement in the Red Deer area as well as the Northwest Rebellion. If you enjoy... More

Stopped here on a whim to check it out. The last time I was here I was launching my kayaking into the river. I have never actually been inside the fort so I did that this time. It was neat. I talked to the girl at the little information booth and I will be back for Fort Normandeau days. Sounds... More

We had a great day visiting Fort Normandeau. It was so interesting walking around the area. I wish we would have packed a picnic lunch to complete our day

A very busy area in the summer. Sometimes one cannot get parking here how busy it gets. A great place to start from if one wishes to float down the Red Deer river. Leaving vehicles with valuables inside may not be a good idea during busy summer months as there had been some vandalism and thefts.

Depending on how interested you are in the history of the area, this Fort gives a good overview but is not very interactive. Great place for a picnic lunch or to launch your canoe or river raft but not much to really see in terms of being a "Fort".

Been wanting to go there but kept putting it off! There's not a lot to see but what there is has been well done! Lots of information. It was cool the day we went but it would be a lovely spot on a warm summer day. Picnic benches where you could sit and watch the lazy Red Deer River go... More

It helps to have an imagination when you visit. True, the facilities and signage are a competent start, but having an imagination certainly helps. Why. This was the easiest place for cargo wagons to move across the Red Deer River between Edmonton and Red Deer (no prohibitively steep embankments). I like to sit on the grass and watch the river... We went during the week and there weren't any staff available. We read all the plaques and enjoyed learning the history but it would have been much nicer had there been informative staff.
