As part of the Kelowna Museums Society, the Okanagan Heritage Museum holds a large collection of First Nation artefacts and the Ethnography Gallery offers visitors a chance to explore collections from Central and South America, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Go back in time and visit a pioneer Chinese grocery store or step inside John McDougal’s trading post built in the 1860s.The Okanagan Heritage Museum is home to two important facilities: the Kelowna Public Archives which serves as a public research facility, and the Ursula Surtees Regional Conservation Laboratory which services the Kelowna Museums Society’s collections and artefacts as well as other collections across the Okanagan.

Well worth a visit. Not a large museum compared to some we have visited but an enjoyable one. Some lovely art work around also. Good for the local history.

We popped in here on a rainy day and spent about 45 minutes learning about the animals in the area, the native presence, the Asian contributions and the athletic honourees. It was a very enjoyable visit.

We found this museum almost by accident. It has a diverse collection of exhibits. Two of the more interesting ones are a replica of a sylix (First Nation) winter home built underground and a panoramic photo of Kelowna from the early 20th C.

While walking around downtown Kelowna we happened to stop at this museum -- and are glad we did. Although this museum is relatively small, the exhibits depicting the history of the region and Kelowna were very well done and interesting. Upon our arrival on Wednesday...More
