This island is a gem in our city, It is a great place for a day visit, take an early ferry (10 minute ride) this hike around the island. The views are awesome and the island has some interesting history. The hike is probably about 4 hours if you take your time so pack a lunch and picnic as you... More

Newcastle Island is not just a lovely little island to explore, but is also a repository of a great deal of local history. Canadian Pacific Railways used to ferry passengers over from Vancouver - imagine Edwardian ladies dressed for afternoon tea, and gentlemen in bowler hats strolling the grounds. Perhaps some lawn bowling, or live music and dancing? Or take... More

With a fun, short ferry ride from downtown Nanaimo you are on a coastal island park Lots of trails and beaches to walk and explore. A good burger for lunch at the cafe. We were able to take our dogs on the ferry with us for $2 each and they enjoyed the day as well!

Racoon and deer and bunnies all over. Sand dollars in the inlet and sandy bottomed bays. You can fill the void at the main building and watch the... More

Great place to come and enjoy a beautiful walk and picnic. Make sure to plan at least half a day as it is only accessible by boat or kayaks. There is a public boat which only takes a few minutes.

Take my boat several times a week, particularly in the fall and winter, tie up to the wharf at the island and go for a stroll along the numerous pathways Very few people there during the winter months. During the summer a different situation!

My husband and I got married on the beach and I've always loved this island. It's very special. At night you can see so many eyes from raccoons and deer!
