I have seen many different birds on this walk. It is an easy walk, if you are looking for more exercised you can walk around the marsh twice and never be bored.

Buttertubs marsh has a winding trail that meanders around the marsh for probably a couple of miles. There a viewing platforms around the marsh and the occasional wildlife. Parking can be a problem at times as it is adjacent to housing.

It's a marsh and really nothing more. Nature within the city. Listen to some birds and see birds. Some people may enjoy more than I did. Wish I would have saw a turtle. I wouldn't come back, as I would rather walk the harbour for...More

We enjoy this walk, lots of marshland wildlife, easy flat walk, a little muddy in the rainy seasons. All ages can walk or run this. It's mostly stroller friendly unless you have a small wheeler. Lots of parking and toilets at the start/finish of the...More

Not a lot of birds. No real wildlife. Seemed to be mostly used by joggers after work. Not much to see unless you've never seen a marsh before.

A 2km circle route around a bird sanctuary in central Nanaimo. Dogs are NOT allowed and neither are bikes. The trail is flat, gravel, and well-maintained with a few benches along the way. There are three wooden viewing towers as well. This walk is often...More

While visiting friends in Nanaimo for Christmas, we decided to take a walk around Buttertubs. It was a crisp, cold, blue sky day and perfect for the 2 km stroll. Fairly easy walk and very well maintained paths along the way. What is most spectacular...More

Wonderful place to see birds in nature and often able to take good pictures. Nice walk around the marsh on gravel trails and is just over 2 km. Other people walking are quite friendly and if they have seen an unusual bird are willing to...More

Buttertubs Marsh is one of my favorite places for photographing birds. Probably the best time of the year to bird-watch is early Springtime although a few birds spend their time year-round here too. It is located near Bowen Park and adjacent to the millstone river....More
