Downtown Vancouver's public gallery named after acclaimed Haida artist Bill Reid. The Gallery is home to the Simon Fraser University Bill Reid Collection and special exhibitions of contemporary Aboriginal Art of the Northwest Coast. Highlights include Bill Reid's stunning gold and silver jewelry, monumental sculptures and a towering totem pole by James Hart of Haida Gwaii. I was very impressed with this wonderful gallery . All I knew of Mr Reid was his two famous sculptures , one at the airport and the other in front of the aquarium . Being around native art all my life , I have taken it for granted until recently realizing how special it is . This is a gorgeous... More

I did not know about his poems that accompanied a couple of his works. Aside from Bill Reid's work, there are also exhibits of other contemporary artists. I wish the gallery were bigger and had more space to showcase other work. Staff were great as well.

It is a little art gallery but I found it really interesting and well organized: you can discover more about Bill Reid and other artists and admire some particular pieces of art.

Bill Reid was an artist from Haida on the North West Coast of Canada and many of his works are on show, together with other contemporary aboriginal work by artists from the same area. Beautifully presented in a peaceful ambience, whilst we are not experts in this artwork, it was good to enjoy the fine workmanship. We particularly enjoyed the... More

This gallery is not commercialised and is almost hidden from the surrounding streets. We happily spent an hour exploring Bill's work and his inspiration. There are a few video screens but otherwise the material is mostly static. Great experience.

It was a nice side trip and a great space. It's very small and focuses only on his work and life. It was about 10$ USD per person. It's in downtown area.

This small gallery was recommended to us by a docent at the Museum of Anthropology. It is a good place to find out more about the incredible influence of Bill Reid and the scope/range of his art. The staff is well-informed and helpful, and the small gift shop is a treasure in itself, and worth a visit to the gallery... More

My wife and adult son were slightly hesitant to join me on this visit but subsequently pronounced themselves hugely impressed by the modestly sized but well-curated and sensitively designed gallery. This isn't the place to tell the story of the late Bill Reid and his central role in returning First Nations art to a place of pride and respect in... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
