I love to visit each and every single Chinatown and I thought I had been to the least interesting one when I visited the one in Chicago but this one was just horrible. The old tattered stores and the restaurant did not help the streets...More

At one time this was a bustling, interesting centrally located commercial area/place... but the influx of Asians over the past 20+ years, mainly to Richmond (South of Vancouver), has drawn much business and "VIBE" there!! While there are remnants remaining, the GLITZ has disappeared!! One...More

I'm Chinese American from Seattle. I especially enjoyed going to Chinatown on my latest trip up in August. I particularly enjoyed the photo displays depicting historic moments/events/people in the community's history. Though I'm American, I felt a sense of unity with the Chinese Canadians historically...More

We walked to Chinatown from the lookout over Vancouver. WOW, so that's where all the homeless and negative factors of the area gather. The streets were lined with vagrants and park areas full of homeless people's campsites. Filthy and smelly it was! Do not go...More

This iconic Vancouver site is beyond your regular Chinatown. It has local shops with traditional oriental produce, kitchen items, food and memorabilia. It also has its famous gardens. Vancouver has the largest Chinese community outside China, and that presence is evident not only here, but...More

Sadly, this is currently a dreary area with numerous homeless people, many of who are begging. There are whole blocks of these sad people.

Appalling level of homelessness in this area. We followed the guidebook advice, looking for some great Asian cuisine for our evening meal, and stumbled naively into some post apocalyptic nightmare of homelessness, drug use and mental illness. Each filthy stinking street corner we turned had...More

We have been to China Town in San Francisco and expected more of the same since Vancouver has a strong Chinese history. It was ok to walk through while avoiding Hastings Street as we were warned about.

With the recent exodus of massive new building
projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which
has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas;
is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before.
Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian
cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking,
Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a
space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes
