Great area to walk and enjoy the many funky shops and eateries. Parking can be a bit of a problem but with a keen eye you can get a spot. The skytrain is at one end of the drive and a short bus or walk will take you into the heart of the area. Many alternative residents live in this... More

I get that it's eclectic and artsy fartsy, but there are a lot of crazies on the Drive. I'd like to see a developer take this project on & give it a facelift. Good property- great views. Some of the restaurants are horrible, some are good; some are historic & should remain. I fancy the odd little shop. There are... More

Home to hippies and people of all shapes, sizes creeds and lifestyles. Come with an open mind, grab a coffee and post up outside and watch. Very laid-back, chill vibe and a lot of people watching to be done on commercial drive.

Commercial Drive is not for everyone but if you like a little adventure you will find some of the best Italian food, bakeries and Ice cream Vancouver has to offer. The food is very inexpensive and you get to enjoy the local hippie crowd. Commercial is a fun walk during the World Cup or for its famous yearly festivel, enjoy.

Born and raised in the lower mainland and did many stops on commercial Drive. Was in town for conference so did a drive through. The place is still great and some old stomping grounds. Only problem is parking now as it was crazy to find a spot to stop for lunch so just drove around and then went some where... More

Even if you are not from the 70's or speak Italian, Commercial Drive is the place to have a perfect coffee, enjoy a nice walk and have fun while dining in one of the hundreds restaurants along 'the drive', from Italian to Chinese, from a gym to grocery shopping. Come hungry!

At first you may ask yourself what is this place and why I am here, but dont stop and keep walking. Slowly you get into it. I like the different atmosphere that Commercial Dr has, as compared to other attractive streets of Vancouver such as Yaletown or Robson St. I can not say it is more authentic, but it has... More

Listen you have not really been seen Vancouver til you have spent a day on "The Drive". This is this historically Italian and Portuguese neighbourhood of the city. It is more gentrified now, but resists any wholesale change. This is the the place where you an go to the pasta shop and hey are making the tortilini by hand, the... More

Commercial Drive is an interesting blend of Vancouver. It offers a wide assortment of bars and restaurants. In many ways it is similar to Main st. just a little more grungy. I think it adds character and charm adding to the appeal. Great place to stroll on a sunny day. Not a must see neighbourhood, but worth a visit.

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
