The museum is very interesting and is full of miniature ship displays of various vessels important to the history of the area. But it's very small, for the price we paid to enter I was expecting it to be much bigger, I was disappointed to turn a corner at the bottom of the main room to find a wall, I... More

Tne new location of the Maritime Museum is so small that it is just a shadow of what it used to be. Very few exhibits and disappointing to anyone who had viewed it in the old building. However it still has a few items on display as well as the big builders models of BC Steamships and some good images... More

Ok so, as a History major I wasn't expecting a lot, I am pretty fair when it comes to museums so I went in with the best attitude. First, it was expensive (surprisingly so considering what we "saw") then we were pressured to leave donations until we felt so guilty we just handed over more cash. Then came the souvenir... More

Learned a lot about maritime history at this museum. Agree with others that the space is way too cramped and they need a much larger venue to showcase what is in storage. Victoria has many restaurants in the vicinity. It is a block away from the Inner Harbor and near the Parliament Buildings and Empress Hotel. NOTE: The Victoria region... More

This is a nice museum and gives you good insights into local maritime history. Convenient location but a bit too much for small kids.

Firstly, I really enjoyed our visit -and so did my grandchildrenn. But it paled compared to our last visit in the old, much larger, quarters in Bastion Square. The Captain Cook/Captain Vancouver display highlights the "discovery" by Europeans. This museum owns literally hundreds of exhibits that had to be "mothballed". They are truly world class, and Victoria needs to find... More

My love of anything nautical would naturally lead me to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia. It probably does not get the publicity it could and I am not sure why. The exhibits are great and very informative.

The museum has recently moved to a smaller space, and there are now no ships on display. The exhibits now are mostly model ships, printed displays, and some small artifacts. Overall it doesn't seem worth the $10 entry fee. I know it's not the museum's fault, and they are currently in negotiation for a larger space. However I would recommend... More

this is a small but well curated museum - with particularly good areas devoted to Captain's Cook and Vancouver and a second dealing with the lost Franklin Exhibition (brought up to date - includes the recent discoveries). Well worth the time and the expense.

It's a shame they now have a smaller place, but what isn't in storage is worthwhile seeing. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful. Here's hoping they get a larger place in the same area soon.
