Smell the gentle ocean breeze as it lures you away from the dock through Victoria’s bustling inner harbour and out into the beautiful Strait of Juan de Fuca aboard Tall Ship Thane. All guests young and old are encouraged to participate in sailing; so tug on the sheets that haul the sails. As we begin silently swooshing through the ocean, become mesmerized by the magnificent snow-capped Olympic Mountains and the majesty of the City of Victoria. Relax and savor your picnic or a sip of wine as we keep our eyes peeled for some of BC’s world famous killer whales, or sea lions and bald eagles. Swap tales with other guests and try to stump the crew with questions, we’re rich with history. And if we don’t really know the answer, be prepared for a wee tale!

What a wonderful, alternative view of Victoria! A great way to spend the afternoon, sailing towards the Olympic peninsula, Windy or not, it is so much fun. And the extremely knowledgeable captain and owner know all the sights, light houses, buildings on shore, reefs, history; just ask. And when it gets cold, there are plenty of jackets and blankets to... More

Only the second time I have been on a sail boat so wasn’t too sure what to expect (or how I would feel). But it was a great experience. There was enough wind for the sails to be unfurled and for us to move along at about 4 knots. Very relaxing way to travel. Both crew members, Pete and Rob,... More

We took a 3-hour tour on the Thane with Captain Pete and First Mate Rob. The day was beautiful but relatively calm outside, so we didn't sail as much as we ended up drifting gently on the ocean. :) However, it was a perfect way to spend the afternoon, and we were incredibly impressed with the experience! Rob and Pete... More

We enjoyed a calm afternoon of sailing (note calm) with Rob and Pete. Excellent crew and competent sailors. The Thane isn't the fastest ship but was lovely to get out of Victoria and have a great view from the straits. You can chose to be helpful or sit on your butt, either seems to be acceptable! Ship was ship shape!... More

We had a wonderful time on the 3 hour sail. We got to be part of the crew, and Rob and Pete were perfect hosts. We would recommend this to anyone.

Rob and Pete had lots of great information about Victoria and sailing in general. While we did not have wind for actual sailing, we motored around and had a fabulous time. The Thane is a very beautiful boat and meticulously maintained. Rob and Pete take tremendous pride in this vessel and in the sailing service that they provide. We highly... More

Despite the lack of wind, we had a great time "bobbing along" in the sun with Pete and Rob. Great hosts and guides with lots of interesting information and stories to share. Highly recommended for a different view of Victoria.

While on vacation my friends recommended a trip on the Thane. Believe me, I had been so busy I was exhausted. We motored out of the harbor (required) and into the Salich Sea. Then the sails went up and the engine was silenced (you have no idea how wonderful that is until you've been there). I could not believe the... More

We booked a month in advance, so thankfully we were able to get a spot on the Labour Day long weekend. It was a spectacular, beautiful experience and even though some people would have preferred a windier day, I was content to wander around the ship, snap photos, chat with other guests and pet Abby the lovable sailing dog. In... More

The boat is very cool piece of local history, clean and has everything you need for a fun trip. Rob and Pete are great with sailing tips and info about Victoria and the Ship itself. This is not an action packed adventure but a easy relaxing slow three hour sail with views and Vancouver island that are great.
