This is a very old historic cemetery in the heart of downtown. If you have any interest at all in cemeteries, this is the one to visit. Some of the gravestones even state cause of death - ie murdered.

Took a little walk around this old cemetery. As it was a rainy day, it felt a little spooky but it was well cared for and had plenty of plaques to read and understand its history.

The old graveyard is located at the bottom of the hill on Spring Garden Road. We included it with our visit to the Public Gardens and New Library a few blocks away. The tombstones are in pretty bad shape from weather and age. There are...More

A solemn place to visit and realize the long history of the Halifax area. It is a National Historic site.

A wonderful history of the early settlers of Halifax. Easy to get to, wonderful to explore. If you're into genealogy and are from this area, this is the place to go to check out Halifax's past.

The Old Burying Grounds are culturally, historically and socially significant. Established in 1749 (same year Halifax was established), people continued to be interred at this cemetery until 1844. As such, the space offers a unique window through which to view certain aspects of colonial times....More

It might sound morbid to visit a cemetery, but this small burying ground has been here for many years. There was a guide who could help to point out people of interest, or to answer questions visitors might have. The guide that we met was...More

The Old Burial Ground is one of the most historic cemeteries in the province. The landscape of the lot also provides a trip through a park-like atmosphere embodied with tidbits of history. The lion monument is also a fantastic part of the cemetery.

Some graves dating back to the mid-1700's, this gives a real sense of the colonial times in North America, and then the role of the British versus the Americans over the next 60 years. Special interest for me - Maj Gen Robert Ross (of Rosstrevor,...More
