The redoubt is well worth a visit for the view and the history. Six large guns show why Halifax was never invaded. Great views of the harbour.

Not able to enter as the place was closed for the Season. We managed to take a couple of photos. It probably would have been worthwhile seeing. Probably, as it is a little off the beaten track, not many tourists visit it. It probably has a nice view over Herring Cove.

After a few wrong turns, we found the York Dedoubt Site. It's not very well marked. We enjoyed the walk around the site and the informative plaques.

this is an interesting place to visit, and historically significant as well. If you go into some of the underground spaces, watch for the odd graffiti

We really enjoyed the walk around this historic site. Beautiful views of the Halifax Port. Lush greenery and interesting old buildings. Great place to walk your dog.

A wonderful place to walk, hike, picnic and explore, the historic fort and its ironstone buildings are on a hill overlooking McNab's Island and the approaches to Halifax Harbour. Atmospheric, peaceful and a great place for a walk in any season, it's also a favourite spot to take dogs.

Seems sadly neglected. Wandered around a bit and it was a nice walk but a little disappointing. We had wanted to geocache but couldn't due to conditions of our own creation. Maybhave made it more fun.

There's no tours. No uniformed performers recreating the past. But this place has charm. There's a series of signs that do a good job of explaining the purpose and history of the redoubt. The site is only "open" seasonally. But it seems to be semi-accessible even in the off-season. You'll likely run into locals walking their dogs. The day we... More

Love coming here. Love the historical vibe it gives. Beautiful area. Always interesting to read the history and facts on the information maps. Great place for kids and family pets.
