Beautiful view!

Beautiful view! Lovely walks around the area. Explore the delightful old village of Boleto and enjoy a delicious Italian lunch at the Agriturismo Barchetto.

What a view!
Mar 2018
It's worth the very difficult drive to get up to the church. We were disappointed to find it locked up tight, but not surprised as many reviews had warned us that it has very haphazard hours. But the view was surreal and well worth the effort to get there.

Great views but church not always open
Jul 2017 • Couples
I noticed the church high on the hill whilst visiting Orta San Giulio on the other side of the lake. After leaving Orta we decided to drive the complete circuit of the lake and seeing signs to the sanctuary we started the climb (in the car!). It's a long and windy road to the top but the scenery is almost alpine as you get closer. There's plenty of car parking spaces either at the church or just before, plus toilets and snack bar. There's also a land train that comes up from Pella at the bottom of the hill - not sure of the timetable or cost but it was at the top when we arrived. Unfortunately the church was closed and there are no signs advising opening times. However, it's the views you come here for and they're certainly spectacular (more so if you have binoculars), with views along the whole lake and across to the summit of Mottarone where the cable car goes up from Stresa on Lake Maggiore. We sat there for a while taking in the tranquility of it all before the return hairpins! Would have given this an "excellent" review if we'd been able to look inside the church.

Make the effort
Oct 2016
The vista is spectacular, the church is phenomenal, the adventure is worthy. Visible from Orta San Giulio it stands high on granite cliffs overlooking Lago Orta. Its a challenge to get to unless you have Waze or Google Maps but worth the effort. Picnic, sightseeing, quiet time, photography, cathedral beauty - its got all of it

Breath taking view... a must see

Amazing church on top of the rocks in Pella, with a gorgeous 180 degrees view over Orta Lake. Inside the church, beautiful paintings from 13th and 14th centuries - be mindful the inside is not always open. Entrance is free but it's recommended to leave a tip for church' maintenance cost. Easily accessible and parking available.

Fabulous location, high high above Lago d'Orta. Incredibly peaceful and calming, and extraordinary vista over the lake. Stunning

Best view of lake Orta
Jul 2016 • Family
Well worth the drive especially if you enjoy hairpin corners. The drive would be pretty intimidating if you managed to meet traffic at the wrong spot but road certainly didn't seem busy despite being July school holidays. The views are amazing. Playground out back of the church for the children. Would be Great spot for a picnic and was pretty cool during the lightening storm when we were there. Can't comment on the church as it was closed when we were there. didn't se any other way to get there than car (or bike for the super fit) not sure if penny H review recommending cable car was wrong madonna del Sasso but certainly no cable car that I could see. GPS from San guilio Orta wanted to take us up the hairpins but we ended up forking right and following road signs which take you up the bus route which was much more relaxing drive even though much longer. Came down the hairpins just for fun.

It is quite a climb to get there, but a nice place for a picnic.
May 2016
We traveled there by bicycle from Miasino, and getting up there was a good climb. Don't try it unless you fairly fit, because it is about 8km with some grades of 11 or 12 percent. Once there the view is spectacular, but the drop is vertiginous, and some visitors could not rest on the wall.

There are shaded picnic spots with grills and even a little snack bar.

Lovely church

We had been intrigued by this church when we had stayed down on Lake Orta. So when we stayed at the nearby Hotel Panoramico we just had to walk the five minutes along the road to investigate. It is very beautifully decorated inside, and you are allowed, unusually, to take photos. Outside, it has a large terrace from where you can look over the beautiful Lake Orta.

Beautiful views
Aug 2015 • Family
We saw this from our hotel room at night lit up and decided to try to find it by car. What a good decision to make as the views from here were stunning.
At times the trip to the top of the mountain was hairy! Steep, through tiny streets and hairpin bends but my husband loved it !!
We were disappointed that once up there we couldn't enter the church which was locked, as from a brief look in the window it looked beautiful but we just had to be satisfied with the amazing view across Orta and the surrounding area.
