Excellent swimming area

We actually camped at Halfway in July and August. The July trip was good but there were still many insects. The trip in August was much better for bugs. The beach is sandy and shallow . The water was warm. There are several lakes that can be paddled. There is good fishing. We caught four pike. The staff is friendly and the store is well stocked. One trail was closed. There are two campgrounds. The wild rose campground is fairly ose to the highway and can be noisy. There are what I believe to be grouse walking around at campsites. I recommend this park

A spot in the wild
Jul 2020
I love this park. The staff are great. It can be very quiet but, as is the case with all provincial parks, generators can be a problem. There are guidelines regarding the use of generators and excessive noise in these parks but the staff ar extremely good at enforcing the rules.
All you have to do is call the main number for Halfway Lake and someone will take care of the problem in minutes.
Halfway Lake is just far enough away from civilization to start to get that Wilderness feel. The adjacent lands are mostly crown land and if you like to pick wild blue berries the are places where you can do very well and there is plenty of water access to lakes that are outside of the park.
It is a good lake for power boating and for canoe/kayaking. There is a flat easy portage at the south end of the lake for back country site access.
If you like power boating or tubing etc, there is a large middle part of the lake where you can keep clear of smaller craft.

Family camp trip
Aug 2019 • Family
We travelled here Aug 18-23 2019, and had the best week! We were three families all together, we had two sites, 17&18 in the Wildrose campground. Although we were close to the highway, (you could hear trucks go by) it was beautiful. Lots of trees, a small path between the sites, large sites, we had a trailer on each, as well as a tent. We all ate together so we had the dining tent up on 18 too. There was still lots of room for the kids to play and ride their bikes.
Comfort stations were close, although they were dated, they were kept clean. Showers were nice and hot, and surprisingly could have been less pressure and would have been perfect.
All the staff, from check in, to the ones at the store, to the ones who were driving around were awesome! Friendly and ready to help with whatever we needed. Definitely a younger staff, but they’re doing a great job.
Beach was beautiful, shallow where we were, nice sandy bottom, and kept very clean. It wasn’t so busy the week we were there, so it was Perfect for our kids to run and be loud if they wanted.
We did part of one of the hiking trails, was narrow, but clean, and well marked. So beautiful.
Mosquitoes were pretty bad, but nothing a little bug spray didn’t take care of.
All in all, if you’re in for a bit of a drive, we live 6 hours south of here, we highly recommend this park. Can’t wait to visit again!

Day Use - Gorgeous Beach And Fantastic Hiking Trail
Aug 2019
We didn't spend much time at the main campground but the beach was beautiful to look at. We hiked the Osprey Heights Trail. The lookout was spectacular. You couldn't hear the highway and could see nothing man-made. We only saw two other people on the trail. It was also sufficiently challenging for my family who likes a rugged hike.

Beautiful park but...
Jul 2019 • Family
First of all the park is beautiful. The beach is shallow pretty far out, perfect for small children. There’s no real designated dog beach just a small space in between Wildrose and Hawksnest beach.
The sites were all pretty decent, good size, lots of privacy but our hydro hookup was 122ft away!! We needed two 30amp cords!
You can hear the highway from most places in the park.

The bugs were sooooo bad, like worse than I’ve ever seen, we went through four bottles of bug spray and went to the camp store to buy more however they ran out and didn’t have any for 3 days. Seems alittle ridiculous that the camp store wouldn’t have bug spray.

If you like to hike, the Echo pond trail is challenging! It’s posted to be a 1-1.5hr hike but it took nearly 3 hours and it was mainly up hill, climbing over huge trees kind of hike. Be prepared with hiking boots and ALOT OF BUG SPRAY.

I gave the park a 3/5 because the camp store could’ve been better supplied and had their staff trained with alittle more knowledge. The hydro hook ups were pretty far away and the beach is nice but alittle to shallow and the water was brown.

Great Staff - Great Time
Aug 2018 • Friends
Bucket List: Visit every Provincial Park in Ontario. This was an interesting stop. We arrived about 10min before day use time closing. It was dark. We had been on the road for hours and this was our last park for the day. We explained to the staff what we were doing and they let us in. We went to take a look at the lake. It was so beautiful in the moonlight and so warm that we got our suits on and went swimming. There were a bunch on pre-teens playing a type of hide and seek game. It struck us as being a good family park, they were having so much fun. We went to the park store and looked through the window (it was closed). We definitely need to come back to this one and see it during the day, however we did love it at night!

Beautiful park
Sep 2018 • Friends
The park is really nice. Lots of lakes for kayaking or fishing and several hiking trails to keep you busy. We had sight 69 which was right on the water. They just built a brand new sanitation station in the park store has lots of stuff that you may need. Our only complaint is the Comfort stations bathrooms.... it did not appear they were cleaned very often compared to other provincial parks we have stayed at. There was no soap in the men's bathroom for 4 days until I finally complained and they got some in there. If they update their bathrooms and get a better cleaning service this will become my favorite Provincial Park to visit.

Great spot!
Aug 2018 • Family
Last summer I had a seasonal lot at another provincial part in Northern Ontario, and I was happy to say that my experience at halfway lake was just as great as my experience last summer. We stayed in wild rose, which has it pros and cons. Pros were our lot wasn’t to far from the comfort station, our seasonal neighbours were very quiet, and our lot was a fair size. The cons to our lot was the toilets located near lot 40 were gross, the toilets near the beach weren’t bad, either was the comfort station. Some lots on the wild rose campground back onto the highway so you do hear traffic from there. Also if your lot 34, you need a pretty long extension cord to plug trailer into hydro as the hydro hookups is deep in the brush, opposite side of where most trailers have their power hookups. The comfort station in wild rose has TONs or water pressure which was nice and it wasn’t super busy either. The beach is perfect for families to play in the water. My oldest son was able to walk right up the the buoys and not be over his head. The shallow water made frisbee and football an easy task for family members of all ages to play. The park area is perfect, my boys who are 7&8 we’re able to bike there no problem. The boat launch is alright, you have to park your truck/trailer a bit aways once you get your boat in the water. We used the trailer dumping station when we left the park, and it was pretty nice and very easy to use.

We are very much considering another weekend visit next summer.

What a great spot
Sep 2017 • Couples
Bathrooms were right out of the 1970's but that didn't matter. What a great spot. Nice big camp sites and several on the water. Will definitely return here.

Wonderful campgrounds
Aug 2017 • Family
We travelled here for the first time this year, and loved it. The beach was nice and close (within walking distance), the store was fully functioning (so if you run out of milk, they have it!). The staff were friendly and good with the kids. The grounds were well kept, and the lots were good size. We'll come back again for sure. The only complaint that we had was the sign's on the Highway ... we were travelling from the East, and the signs for the park were non-existent. We had to drive till we found a place to turn around (which is very difficult when you're pulling a 30 foot trailer!).
