Both theatres are perfect, with confortable seating, good sound, and lovely/kitch decorations. Use the elevators to avoid the steep stairs

Toronto may be a city of neighbourhoods, but it is also a city of theatre, and those who miss out on seeing a show or two, would miss one of the better parts of the city. The interior of this theatre alone makes this a worthy place to see, but the perfomances are usually of a high caliber. Opera Atelier... More

I've seen many shows at The Elgin...it is a gorgeous theatre and I would give it four stars...but when you add the (five star) Winter Garden...it really is a marvel of architecture. I saw Michael Buble as a kid in Forever Swing about six times at The Winter Garden and continue to frequent this gorgeous old theatre whenever possible.

An afternoon to remember, a real treat from my daughter. Great seats and the show was outstanding! The " Bodyguard " was fabulous and I enjoyed the staging and the music was the best. The actual theatre was in all it's glory.

I went to see Sousatzka at the Elgin theatre. Beautiful looking theatre. Sat in a balcony seat. Apart from the seats kind of shifting to the side, I was very comfortable. Affordable tickets and friendly staff who make you feel welcome. I hear anywhere you sit, you will surely see and hear everything!

If you get a chance to see a show at this amazing old theatre, don't miss it. It is truly ornate and an architectural marvel. The seats are comfy and make seeing a play here a pleasure.

I have visited this theatre a few times over the years and it always feels very special. It isn't huge inside so most seats are good, as are sight lines and sound. I tend to like about row C in the mezzanine somewhere near the middle or just to one side. Gives a nice general overview of the stage. Row... More

The cast is sublime, the singing out of this world and the theatre a masterpiece of architecture. That leaves the book, the lyrics and the music and sadly they are just not good enough. The word mediocre comes to mind. I wanted so badly for this show to work but it just doesn't as it has no idea what central story it... More

We attended the matinée performance of Sousatzka at the Elgin on Sunday and were very pleased with the musical and overall performance. It was our first venture to the Elgin and will not be our last

We went to a Saturday evening performance of Sousatzka, a new musical. The play was outstanding and the the theater accoustics were excellent.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
