Founded in 1922, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra is one of Canada’s leading cultural institutions. Today, more than 225,000 patrons and over 50,000 students visit the Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall each year, and an additional five million Canadians tune in to concert broadcasts on CBC Radio. Under the leadership of Music Director Peter Oundjian, the Orchestra has increased recording and touring projects to include a self-produced record label, and performances throughout the US and Canada. The TSO was fantastic - we always like visiting the arts while traveling and this was no disappointment. Reasonably priced, but not at the expense of the performance. And there wasn't a bad seat in the venue. Excellent visit

Once again, I was delighted to attend a new TSO concert. Each time I go, it's always a special experience. This time, we had an encore interpretation of Cohen's Hallelujah on the piano played by Italian pianist Stefano Bollani. Simply beautiful and memorable. Thanks to all TSO musicians to bring such musical music. It warms the heart especially when it... More

As a local and lover of classical music, I discovered the symphony later on after my stay in Toronto. Long story short, this is the best symphony orchestra in town and definitely one of the better ones on the continent. If you're a classical music lover or like the symphony, you should not miss a chance at a show here.... More

Visited for TSO + Second City and the show was hilarious! Definitely planning to come back for this next year. I think TSO is doing a great job trying to appeal to a wider audience. If you are under 35, check out TSO soundcheck!

We were so happy to hear that the TSO would be performing a tribute to our favourite movie composer, John Williams. We immediately purchased tickets for the first night. Listening to the performance, as avid movie buffs, was like listening to the soundtrack of our lives. Their performance of the music from ET: the Extra Terrestrial actually brought tears to... More

It is a great and friendly venue. Great orchestra and nice program this year. Enjoyed many performances this season. Still a few concerts throughout June.

We have been TSO subscribers for a number of years, and usually enjoy the various performances, branching out from my comfort level with pops concerts to more classical performances. Maybe with my taste for classical I was expecting too much, but just not impressed with the Music of John Williams. Williams must be doing something right having composed music for... More

TSO offers a full range of concerts from pop to heavy classics. Many pricing options are available and you wont be disappointed. We went last night to "Angela Hewitt plays Bach" and were blown away by her performance. After the interval we were treated to the full orchestra performing Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8 and conducted by Peter Oundjian. Just amazing... More

My wife purchased tickets to a Pops TSO concert entitled "On Broadway". There was no song list on the website, and we both expected to hear all the old Broadway classics; anything by Rogers and Hammerstein, Miss Saigon, Wicked, Les Miz, My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, etc. Instead, we had to endure some of the most obscure songs from... What a wonderful symphony orchestra! We went to see from Mozart to Rachmaninoff performance in February and were amazed by the true talent from the conductor to the orchestra. Definitely I recommend it to assist if you want to be impressed!

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
