One of the oldest dance halls in Toronto, the Phoenix attracts an all-ages, all-races crowd that includes straights and gays. As a rock venue, it showcases such artists as Screaming Headless Torsos and Patti Smith. On the weekends, it gets the crowds dancing with a mixture of retro, Latin, alternative, and funk.

It's a great place to see a band live. Its small enough so that there isn't a bad spot in the venue.I saw James Vincent McMorrow here, came in last minute and was able to grab a drink quickly and a close spot to the stage. I hope to see another artist here soon!

Small club with a balcony. Balcony has leather couches but the sound is terrible. Good sightlines though. Definitely not my favourite venue. Saw a show here a few years ago and I think I'd prefer to be downstairs but I'm 6 feet tall. My girlfriend appreciated being in the balcony for the sightlines alone.

Went to a small event at the Phoenix Center and I really enjoyed the flow of their event space. They have multiple areas inside that can be used to meet your needs for your event. As an example we had food service in one small area and then used the larger space and upstairs seating area for mingling and socializing... More

By far my favourite concert venue in Toronto. Just the right size to see your favourite bands up close. Well shaped venue with good sight lines and good acoustics.

Very small and intimate, this place is great to see a band up-close. Drinks were good but it tends to be a nightmare trying to get out afterwards. Nearby parking but will need to pay/walk. Great place for music!

The Phoenix is a shabby little "theatre" that has seen better days. But this makes for an awesome little music venue. We saw Bloc Party there and was surprised at how small the venue was (which I much prefer to pointless stadium and arena concerts - its smaller than Sheps Bush and Brixton academies). With small, easy to-get-to bars either... More

Came in from Ottawa to see my favourite band Collective Soul preform at the Phoenix. Let me say first that the show was AMAZING. The boys really rocked it that night. The venue was good, the sound was good as were the site lines. And even though the show was sold out, the service at the bar was great. Would... More

My son the rock star leading me on a trail of concerts far and wide. Most events here tend to be 19+. Great hall to see bands no bad spots, tends to get pretty loud due to the smaller space and if the sound mix is off it could be rather harsh. Good sized GreenP lot directly across the street.

Saw the Junior Boys / Jessy Lanza show here while I enjoyed it, the bass was ramped up waaay too high, particularly for Jessy Lanza's show, which at times was almost unlistenable. Sound was slightly better on the floor than the balcony. But overall was below average for a venue of this size/type. Staff doing the ticket check / frisking... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
