The museum didn't have many articles from Lucy Maud, but local people have donated their cherished items from Maud's era. Our tour guide Shelley was highly knowledgeable and charming. We spent 90 minutes there and could have stayed much longer. Next time we'll pack a picnic basket! Bideford is a small community but close to Green Park for camping and... More

This is a bit out of the way, and the museum is small. It is where L.M. Montgomery stayed during her first teaching position. We came after hours and called to make sure we could come late. What really made it worth it and was awesome was the reading. They conduct a small, prepared L.M. Montgomery reading with tea, cookies,... More

We only came across the Bideford Parsonage Museum by accident--we were looking for a bathroom and they were having an open house. So glad we did. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, pointing out which parts and furnishings are original, what's been restored, and what's period but doesn't actually belong to the house. In fact, the curator took us... More

Had not known of this house until a friend posted on facebook so added to our trip activities while vacationing on the island. My hubby and I love older homes and when we pulled up to this darling yellow house with its beautiful lawns, gardens and white picket fence we both agreed we could move right in. The tour guide Shelly... More

This restored parsonage is worth a stop even if you aren't an Anne fan. It is a great glimpse into the way our not-so-distant forefathers lived. Set in a lovely location and gives you a greater appreciation of the excitement of the housewives when they got 'water in'. No more lugging water from the well house or carrying chamberpots to... We came across this house while riding through the countryside and turned around to check it out and we were so glad that we did! This is a wonderful period home that just happens to be the house that the author of Anne of Green Gables lived in her first year as a teacher. This house is being restored to... More

This house museum is wonderful, not only for its connection to the writer of Anne of Green Gables, but as a place to visit in its own right. Lucy Maud Montgomery boarded here for a year in 1894-95 when she was 19 and teaching at Bideford School. The whole parsonage building was rescued and renovated by local people and has... More
