My friend and I decided to spend a few days in Montreal this winter to celebrate her birthday. Living in Florida, but raised in Chicago, it had been a long time since I endured a " real" winter. We did the winter tour of Mount Royal and it was fantastic. Our guide Martin felt immediately like a friend versus a... More

My husband and I visited Old Montreal in January. We booked 3 tours through Fitz and Follwell. Our first schedule tour was Winter on the Mountain. We met at their office where we met Shea. We rented parkas, boots etc as we were are from Dallas and did not have all the winter gear! She's was very nice! He was... More

My wife and I didn't know quite what to expect when we decided to go on an outdoor Winter tour of Mount Royal. It was after all, 10 degrees outside and we're city slickers - neither of us are particularly gung-ho when it comes to things like snow-shoeing or sledding. But we can't say enough about what an unexpectedly great... More

I have been on a summer bike tour. It was so amazing that I stayed updated on the email list and then on an unexpected trip to Montreal this weekend, I decided to try the underground indoor tour. Jeff, the tour guide, provided a lot of interesting information and took the group to seemingly endless beautiful and fun places throughout... More

We took the Old Montreal on a beautiful, snowy day, and the whole thing felt perfect. Montreal at its best. Our tour guide wasn't fazed at all by the weather -- he said it just made him love the city even more. He provided excellent information throughout, while also making sure everyone was OK with the conditions. And we all... More

We took the Food tour on Friday 12/30 and found it not to be what we expected. It was less a food tour and more a Montreal history tour with a few snacks. The tour listed (and did visit) 6 spots, but of the 3 hours, very little time was actually spent eating. I would estimate at least 2/3 of... More

Great food, educational, super fun, short & sweet. It was a cold New Years Eve but our guide made it enjoyable and safe. Getting to try such a variety of foods and walking into old run-down buildings was an enlightening experience.

My husband and I took this tour with Thom on Dec. 29, during a snow storm and it was still worth it. It starts in the archeology museum, the Pointe-a-Calliere, with an overview short video. Then we went on to see the main old sites/sights. The walk was a good pace, not too slow or too fast. He told amusing... More

We recently took a walking tour with Jeff and loved it! He brought us to some really interesting places, all the while filling in the historical background of the Mile End neighborhood. So much nicer to have context for the food you are eating and wonderful to encounter the food makers themselves, making the food they have been preparing for... More

What a great tour for a colder day - Nov 15. "cousin" Jeff was our tour guide and could not have been better. He was very fun and knowledgeable. He catered to us and was very interesting! We went to several ethnic restaurants that had a history behind them. Would highly recommend this food tour as a great way to... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
