Just get out there take the metro to Champs des Mars walk up the street and vlola you are there. Aside from the cobble stone roads, and beautiful architecture of the old city there is such an ambiance of flavors and fun . Tons of things to do all year round there are Museums and attractions all around the clock... More

On a nice sunny day, it is fun to stroll in the Vieux-Port. It is well organised with lots of information about old structures that are still standing up. It has lots of places to eat and drink and also sit down. It is a popular spot for families too with the Montreal Science Center nearby.

pleasant 1 hour trip. Informative guide, but not a huge amount to see. Struggled against the tide on the St Lawrence River, so doesn't venture far

Gives riders an overview of the important sites in the port and the guide provides a taste of its history.

The city has done wonders with the old port and the Balade du Vieux Port is a great way of visiting the site. The cost is minimal, the seats are comfortable and are attached to one another like a small train on wheels. The schedule is very regular (about every 20 minutes or so) and the ride is quite pleasant.... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
