Castle and Fairytale Gardens Le Rivau was constructed in the 15 century by Pierre de Beauvau, Great Chamberlain of Charles the 7th. It is also renown for having been visited by Joan of Arc on her way to Orleans to get some horses. This medieval private castle is animated by more than 380 art-objects. In the royal stables, an exhibit on Francis the First last king-knight is shown. Gem among the Loire Valley, Rivau Gardens are labbled 'Remarquable Gardens'. All around the year, discover our amazing flower collections of bulbs, iris, peonies, roses, lavender, dahlias, ornemental grasses and vegetables. Rivau gardens are Conservatory of Fragrant Roses and Conservatory of Vegetables that are used in our restaurant. The castle and gardens are suitable for the whole family, adults will be interested in botanic, history and contemporary art and kids will be transported in a fairytale like environnement.

The owners of the chateau have done a marvellous job of renovating it. The interior is a clever mix of the old and new but the best bit is the garden. I was a bit apprehensive that it would be a bit too 'theme park' with it's fairy theme but it was not at all. This is a wonderful garden... More

In view of the fact that the chateau was effectively derelict for a long period of time until the wonderful restoration by the current owners; both the chateau and gardens are a delightful surprise. The chateau is very picturesque outside, with a small number of interesting rooms inside. The gardens range from beds planted with David Austen roses, through an... More

Fully restored, inspiring gardens and engaging layout. This is ideal for children with lots to see and do. Not so good for a rainy day though

We visited as a result of a newspaper article from 2015. The gardens and grounds are well designed and create an enchanting environment for children as well as adults. Inside the chateau is also very interesting, with a variety of works of art and interesting decor. We had lunch there and that was of good quality and sensibly priced'

Personally the chateau is a bit uninteresting. The art in the few open rooms has been there for years, it's a complete mish mash of "modern art", not curated well just plonked there. Outside the theme is unremitting fairies, but if you suck that up the gardens are very nice in good weather. Lunch in the courtyard is very pleasant,... More

Thank you for your comment ! We know that there is not a lot of room to visit in the chateau but it's because the owners live inside. Some works of art in the castle have been here for a long time but every year we have a new exhibition in the rooms of the chateau : this year it... More

Had a great few hours at this chateau. Definitely one for a non rainy day as most of the attractions are found outside, only five rooms are open in the chateau itself with some weird and wacky artwork. If you like a traditional chateau and spend ages looking at furniture, you may be disappointed with this one. If you have... More

We visited this place as we saw it on the map and it looked interesting. We'd been to Versailles earlier in the week so had been rather spoiled with the immense size and scale of the palace but this was amazing in its own right. We arrived just as the restaurant was about to close but the very chatty lady... More

4th year in Loire, the chateaus are all very impressive. However if you've seen three you've seen them all. Rivau breaks the mould and offers an alternative experience. A truly amazing setting, worth a look!!

Absolutely delightful castle with enchanting gardens. Perhaps it's a bit of a pity that there are so many notices urging you not to touch the "installations." We spent a wonderful day there with our children of 1 4 and 6. It is excellent for young children and more than enough to enjoy for adults too.
