It's been 7 years, but WOW has Bucerias changed. After 2 years of virtually no tourists, the economic impact is immediately felt. On the one hand, there are at least a dozen restaurants that have closed permanently. Prices have gone up, for both food and accommodation.
YET, there are brand new condos being built...on both sides of the highway. Prices for these units range from $200k to $1.2 million. It appears that Canadian boomers are retiring, and many are moving to the area. Great for local jobs, but the small-town Mexican ambience isn't what is used to be.

Was in Bucarias twenty some years ago at the Royal Decameron and saw it as a small town, very quiet. Much to my surprise this time when I arrived to see the hustle and bustle of a big city, constant building to take advantage of Americans leaving their country, restaurants crowding the beach to make walking difficult and construction garbage and dust everywhere. Yes, it is still warm and yes the ocean is still beautiful and there are great beaches like Marina but overall I am disappointed and will not return.

This is what we did, a day trip to Bucerias from Puerto Vallarta and it is quite easy to do. Just catch a taxi, from PV it is about 185 Pesos (around $7 usd each way). They will drop you off at the lovely town square in the center of downtown. We arrived about 10am, walked to a beach side restaurant and had a relaxing breakfast and enjoyed the view of the beach and Banderas Bay. Then we toured around the large open marketplace, walked on the lovely beach. Had a late lunch at an outdoor cafe. We captured some nice deals in the marketplace, met friendly people. Then back to the town square and it is easy to find a taxi, as the taxi stand is marked. Inexpensive fun day.

I am not sure what Bucerias actually translate to in English, but it should be "Scam Tourists".
We took a cab to the market. The ride was supposed to be 140 pesos, but as I only had 100 pesos, I tried to give the driver enough US dollars to cover the difference, but he made me give him $5 USD instead, which is almost 2.5 times more than what 40 pesos is worth.
When at the market, my dad very specifically told the merchant he wanted vanilla cigars. He was assured that they were vanilla. They were not.
Again at the market, my dad wanted to purchase a license plate from the area we were in. A vendor sold him a plate telling him repeatedly that it was for the state Puerto Vallarta is in. On the way back to the hotel he showed the cab driver who laughed at him and told him it was actually a taxi plate from two states over.
I went to one of the pharmacies and made a purchase. I was charged 1000 pesos, but after looking at my purchase after I paid I noticed an 800 pesos sticker on it. I asked for a refund of the 200 pesos, but they refused, saying their system did not allow them to do refunds.
After being scammed four times, we left.

Firstly I know we are in Mexico yes we booked it because it's mexico but.....
Where do I start, so positives 1st,
Some amazimg staff, yane, Beatrice, the breakfast chap doing the omelettes so quick I couldn't see his badge and so many others.
Accomodation
Not European 5 star more like 3,however our room was clean and always tidy, the complementary fridge bar was only full on our start and never topped up, but who really cares as it's all inclusive?
Location
Great for everywhere really but if you want to get out and about make sure you have uber as this will save you a few pound
Food
It's OK, they try, the staff particularly Beatrice are great but they definetly need more staff. Other restaurants are OK but nothing really worth mentioning
Bars
The main bar at night gets knee deep, not enough staff!!!!! Bars around the pool seem to serve you quicker if you are Mexican
Annimation team
They put together some great shows and really very good. However, during the day play 90% mexican music and around the pool at 700 dB, when asked to either turn the volume down so we can speak or play anything with English voices they play the 'I don't understand' card
Internet
Our booking website clearly stated Free WiFi, nope that's only in the lobby, Tui website doesn't state that, if you want WiFi it's £38 for 2 devices per week
Overall
Hotel ok, food ok, staff some very good others need to leave. too many Mexican weddings and don't cater for the other groups of guests who in case the hotel doesn't know, are from Canada, USA, Europe.
Mexican guests smoked sound the pool and ate around the pool and never challenged
We are here for 5 more days on a 2 week holiday but spent so much time away from the hotel as it's unacceptable and despite requests fall on deaf ears, even if you are all inclusive like we were bring more cash as you will have a better time away from the hotel
Monkey bar - excellent
Bucerias is beautiful and food a d beach amazing
Coastal walk tremendous
Would I stay here again? Definetly NO
Would I recommend definitely NO
Honestly better off in an Air B&B you would save money and have a much better time.
Such a shame as this has now put us off hotels in puerto vallarta

Be careful when paying cab fare at airport. On 1/22/23, we checked out of our hotel in Bucerias and took a cab to the Puerto Vallarta airport. Our cab driver overcharged us by saying we didn’t pay the correct amount. He showed us three $20 peso bills when we are certain we gave him a $500 for the fare and $100 for the tip. We are certain because we never had any $20 peso bills and checked the amount as we exited the cab. We wish we had slowed down and counted the bills into his hand instead of rushing to get out of the way when the departures lane was so busy. Sadly, we paid twice for our ride.

A great little town that has a great variety of sites and sounds from lively bars to a very noisy market area (where everything is "almost free") to quiet side streets (if you want to do a bit of walking where you can find children going home for lunch, construction workers waving from roof tops, etc.). And the visit wouldn't be complete without a stop at Miguel Angel Restaurants and Bar where Migel greets you at the door, always with a smile. If you are looking for a neat, tidy sleepy little Mexican ciudad … don't go.

Monday 31st January and we walked from our Hotel, Riu Palace Pacifico to the next town along, which was Bucerías. It took us about a hour to walk there taking the street route. It took roughly the same time walking back via the beach, nicer views.
Bucerias actually means the Place of Divers and the word Buzo means diver. It is appropriate therefore that there is a statue of a diver, El Buzo, The Diver, on the seafront. It is beside the large letters spelling out the name of the Town.
They are across the road from Plaza Bucerías with it's charming bandstand and vibrant painted walls.
No visit to Bucerías is complete without a visit to the Church, Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Paz. It is not lavish and ornate, however,
it has a plain simple charm.
We also strolled through the narrow street that form the Flea Market with the stalls filled with every type of souvenirs, hats, shirts, ceramics, colourful fluffy toys, blankets and so very much more. Most of the stuff is so on the beach by the beach sellers.
There are numerous cafes and restaurants, some with unusual and colourful zany decor. We stopped at a small cafe, called Nino, good coffee and reasonably priced.
There are street food stalls, where fresh oysters can be purchased, or chickens are being cooked on a makeshift grill.
There are an abundance of pharmacies along the streets of Bucerías.
Whilst we enjoyed the sights, sounds and the cooking smells of Bucerías we found the
streets to be a bit dirty, with litter strewn about. There was a great deal of construction work under way, building more holiday apartments, in particular near the beachfront area.
It is a good place to spend a morning or afternoon wandering around, then spend some time at the beach at one of the beach bars, some had sun loungers for their guests

Found another great restaurant in bucerias. Close to royal decameron complex , if you are looking for a change of food . Only open from 8am till 6pm , breakfasts , lunch & snacks. We went for a late lunch around 2pm . Food was excellent , everything out of the kitchen looked great. Not a large menu , but very good food. We had chicken wings , best we have had out side of canada , they were cooked just like we asked. We also had a steak quesadia which we shared , again cooked perfectly , sauce came on the side & was very tasty. Heard about this place from someone on the resort , so we passed our experience on to several people we talked to .Den . D

Did you stay at Dreams Villamagna and what did you think about this resort? It seems smaller than some with about 200 rooms which I like? Was it fancy, clean and does it have excellent food? Do you know if there is a Premium level service so you can get the best drinks and service? Thanks

I will be in Bucerias with my 6 kids end of March. I'm looking for some type of volunteer opportunity we could do. Either serving the community, maybe with children of need. We'd like to be able to donate some clothing and love on the children. We'd also be interested in an ecologic/environmental based opportunity. We'd like to give back to the community and give our kids a hands on experience. We've never been there before and We also don't speak Spanish. Thank you.

Don't bother going to Walmart, it is not like the ones in the states. Go to the Mega store you can find all you want there.

How long of a walk from RIU Jalisco via the boardwalk path?
Is this the best place to buy a Mexican blanket, and what is a good/average USD price to pay?

Is there an art supply store in Bucerias that sells oil paints and solvents? If yes, how do the prices compare with the US? Thanks!
Written 28 November 2018
Im not aware of an actual Art supply store in Bucerias, but you might try your luck at the art section of Walmart or Mega mall. They both offer a basic assortment of Oil paints,Solvents and art supplies in general. Nothing too fancy or top notch quality.
About 30-40 minutes away in Puerto Vallarta there is a Store named Art Vallarta that offers more options and Variety. They Cater more to Artists
