See the inspiration for the fairy-tale castle in Sleeping Beauty: Charles Perrault, the author of the popular tale, was so impressed he decided on this castle as the setting of his story.

My child was fascinated, an interestingly presented all of the scenes of the fairy tale. There are many steps and the rooms were enhanced by the dressed dolls. The gardens are charming too.

We spent a full day just visiting the châteaux on a recent visit to the Loire Valley. The challenge in the planning was to avoid overdosing on redundancy while also blending sites for those in our party who had never been here and new ones...More

The chateau is easy to find and surrounded by gardens. The rooms were enhanced by the dressed mannequins. This is where the story of Sleeping Beauty is set out in one of the towers and is a delightful trip although there are lots of steps...More

It's a privately owned chateau, the entrance price is a bit high. Nice formal gardens. Interesting chapel, wine caves. Stables - yeah yeah seen loads of that. The castle itself offers an interesting walk around inside. We too thought the Sleeping Beauty thing was really...More

We drove past Usse a few years ago but didn't have the time to stop. We made it a point this year. The sleeping beauty tie-in was cute but the history, architecture and well manicured gardens are the real reason to see this chateau. I...More

We actually quite liked this cute wee castle. We saw it before going to its bigger cousins which helps, but in any case it's lovely and I didn't mind the entrance fee knowing that it's helping the owners to maintain the place. I would hate to...More

Of all the chateaus we visited, this was the worse, and the most expensive, the book had a glowing write up. I suggest you give it a miss, not very interesting @14 euros pp not worth the journey

We also rented a car and we had a GPS which we found quite helpful ! Beside the châteaux close to Rigny-Usse we also visited 2 of the most beautiful villages of France : Candes Saint-Martin and Monsoreau .
