The impressive part of this Cathedral is undoubtedly the brick central round tower, once the highest in Georgia. Sadly, little of the frescos remain or are faded and difficult to see. Internally, the building is uninspiring other than for the central tower with its conical top.

+ Good sights, impressive Cathedral. Not so far from T'elavi. This place tune your soul to twig beauty of nature and music of winds. - Small area to explore.

Lovely setting for this fortified church, out on the plain with the Caucasus Mountains behind. Not much to see, another old church but striking in its appearance.

I visited Alaverdi Monastery with my fiancee last month and we enjoyed the walking around the peaceful grounds and inside the monastery. Be sure to wear sleeves and pants though, as they won't let you in otherwise!

Traveling from Napareuli you can see the chuch from big distance. It's a real landmark. But once you arrive you can visit only the church itself and a small part from the yard. Everyrhing else is closed...

A lot of the old monasteries and cathedrals in Kakheti look the same. The architecture is interesting from outside, but the inside is pretty ho-hum and not so well preserved.

While we were able to get into the church, we could not take pictures. Little of the original painting is left and mush was obscured by scaffolding up to the ceiling. We could not visit most of the complex which was off-limits or being reconstructed.
