Very Interesting. The guide could have been more knowledgeable but she was very pleasant. It is a must visit when you go to Sutherland.

During the tour you feel like on a school trip (which being an adult I find a very cool experience!) - they take you around a little science museum, after which you have the opportunity seeing the Large South African Telescope inside and out and believe me it's impressive! They also do stargazing sessions (with visitor telescopes) twice a week... More

Interesting to see how it works, the size of it and some atro big words. Quite a drive (well worth it just for the drive) to get there from Sutherland.

Well worth a visit to see this amazing facility and learn more about astronomical research. I also recommend a visit to Jurg for night viewing of the heavens.

We enjoyed and interesting and informative visit to the observatory. The telescope is sited on the highest point in the area which makes for wonderful views and good photo opportunities.

We visit both the Salt tour as well as the Stargazing (private setting )with Jurg. I would recommend both. At Salt they show you the telescopes, but nothing about the stars or planets . At Stargazing you learn about the stars and planets. The guide at Salt were good, but they do not take care of the gallery. Much of... More

This is definitely a must visit. Please book online in advance to avoid disappointment. Although the material in die visitors Centre could do with a bit of an upgrade, it was very informative and the staff was friendly. We had loads of fun taking a picture in different galaxies, that they mail to you to keep. Please dress warmly, it... More

This is a MUST visit for anyone passing through Sutherland. Young Children should also be given the opportunity to see how our country holds its own in the technological world.

Although the guided tours are weeks in advance fully booked we did the hourly self guided tour. All this means is that at reception we walked through the area looking at some interesting facts on display . (Mostly about stars and planets). A guide then escorted us to the SALT and took us inside. Wow what a sight to see... More

We'd booked an evening and afternoon tour and arranged to be in Sutherland just before the new Moon. To our dismay we were told on arrival after a long drive from Cape Town, that the employee was on leave, the rest of the staff were in a training session. Evening tour was cancelled but a very enthusiastic trainee volunteered to... More
