Stayed a night here in the resort when we were in Betong. There are many flowers here, hence the name 万花园. The room is very simple and no-frills with a basic bed, shower room and towel. There are no toothbrush, toothpaste or other toiletries provided. The heater water is either very hot or very cold, and it's very challenging to adjust the water temperature.
We also had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant in the garden and the food was simple but surprisingly good. It is a more laid-back place on a hill and with nothing much to explore nearby, so it's a place suitable for relaxation.

At the Winter Flower Garden, the hillside nursery cultivated by the group of ex-communists of the defunct Communist Party of Malaya, I saw a hundred flowers blossom The hundred or even thousand of the flowers cultivated here were bright, colorful, charming and beautiful. The fragrance of flowers pervaded the air not the vapor smell of gunpowder of the militant guerillas that once terrorised the jungles and tunnels at Betong. Here, you find a hundred flowers blossom and you find peace and serenity.
The former party cadres have diligently converted the wild and barren forested mountains into fertile grounds and nurseries for the cultivation of a thousand species of flowers, herbs, vegetables and plants. They had utilised and channeled their knowledge of building tunnels into the construction of a empire of enterprises, nurseries, shops, restaurants, guesthouses and retail shops in this outskirt of Betong that were once dominated by them.
There was a restaurant at the front gate of the nursery. I had the opportunity to speak to one of the `auntie' helpers at the restaurant and she was proud to talk about the three guesthouses at the nursery that had attracted a number of guests. She also related to me the old days when she joined the communist movement at the age of 13. Being a Thai national, she was able to openly assisted in the purchase of food supplies at Betong town for the `cadre soldiers' fighting guerilla warfare in the jungles. She was with the communist party for about 28 years before they surrendered their arms and `walk out of the jungles'. Now she works in the nursery for self subsistence and had put behind the ideology that she once fancied.
I had my lunch at the restaurant with my relatives and friends and we found the food cooked was superbly healthy with less oil, less salt, no MSG and fresh vegetables direct from the nursery. The price was reasonable and the fresh water fish tasty.
There is also a retail shop selling herbs grown and used by the communists during their guerilla days when western medication supplies were not so easily obtained . In their long guerilla struggle in the jungles, they had identified and gathered knowledge of herbs that were effective in the treatment of wounds, snakes bites and bones injuries and they were now sharing them to the world.
I also spoke to the herbal shop retail assistant who was an ex-member of the Marxist Leninist faction that broke off from the Chin Peng led Communist Party of Malaya. She denied the Marxist and Leninist faction was a `revisionist' group and said that both groups shared the same ideology and were fighting then for the same revolutionary cause.
The ex-communists are now turning this Betong area into an enterprising `commune'. The livelihood and welfare of the `party cadres' appeared to be taken care of with the establishment of these enterprises. In their previous long years of `unrelentless struggle' for the `liberation of Malaya', they had built up their resilience and determination to overcome any adversities in life. From my conversation with the ex-communists, they looked equally determined, optimistic and confident in their endeavor to build up a great conglomerate.
The doctrine of Marxism is a philosphy of dialectical materialism, the conflict of social forces and theoretically ended up in the domination and supremacy of the proletarian class. Marx contended that only the `bourgeoisie' enjoys political freedom in a democratic capitalist society while the proletariats were oppressed and their labor exploited by those who were in power and in control of the means of production. It is thus difficult for a communist regime to swallow the social liberation of thoughts that threaten the class struggle theory.
,The `Great Chairman and Leader' Mao Tse Tung once initiated a nationwide campaign of Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend" but ended up in tragic and catastrophic outcome with vicious persecution of outspoken intellectuals and the eventual deprivation of individual rights for freedom of speech. The theory of proletariat dictatorship has its limitation.
As William Shakespere pointed out in his plays: `There are more things in heaven than there are dreams in your philosophy'.
The progress of the human race is marked not by one ideology but by the numerous different philosophies that accompanied its growth. The era of the Great Exploration and the Industrial Revolution were accompanied by the bold emancipation of human thoughts beyond the biblical world of the Dark Ages. The adventurous spirit of exploration and new discoveries catapults the whole human history forward into an era of rapid scientific and technological progress. Without the daring spirit to explore, experiment and venture, there would be no Industrial Revolution and progress for human kind. It is not one single ideology or philosophy that propel the progress of human history but a multitude of philosophies and daring venture.
Let a hundred flowers bloom.

Its gave you a different feel of weather from a humid town to a cold and windy hill. The temperature is just nice for a short walk and trip for big cc motorcycle. The restaurant beside the entrance of the tunnel serving fresh water fish :) it's was nice and please ignore the hygience because it was halfway of the hill. The tunnel records all the Malaya vs Malaya communists bloods and history. It also resides the highest leader of the Malaya communists and most of Malaysian communists were quarantined at that place and formed a community which live and breed on their own. It worth to pay a visit and understand bit of the history.

Excellent landscaping. Situated on a highland on the way to Piyamit tunnel.
Chalets available. But usually fully booked during weekends.
A big restaurant with good food at the entrance. Need to spend 2 to 3 hrs for flower lovers. Can sit around to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Worth to explore the area for different types of flowers and plants.
A must for flowers and nature lovers.

A surprise Garden & a cool place hidden away amongst the hills. It was to be a Thai Princess get away. Well upkeep, the place is surrounded by hills, with diligent workers & security guards of yester years. We made a friend out of a guard of more than 30 years being here, & 50 years of struggles that he told us the story of his younger days. This beautiful place is quiet & filled with negative IONs so refreshing that all of us looks younger with our two nights stay there. Not enough, some exclaimed. As the open air lorry brought us (30 pax) through the hills, the route was spotted with fruiting trees or Durian & loads+loads of these torny fruits line the road side. We salivate & drool, Many screamed for the driver to stop, so that we could enjoy wild durians. We ended up eating two baskets filled of these, at the farm. (first lot S$3 per kilo but the next S$5.50, they went for the kill because tourist pays tourist price). We are street smart but all be wary, before you start eating the next time. Must inform the many range of flowers filled the places. Our only enjoyment for the night was a Karaoke session of singing & games of plastic tiles. We brought lanterns from Singapore & lighted these up here in Betong to celebrate Mid Autumn festival with a Thai twist, above the hills of 15 degree ambience.

it's like a little paradise in the mountains........ we planned to stay in Betong for only one or two days but after seeing this place, we ended up there for just short of a week. .
Accommodation ..... strangely it doesn't seem advertised in any meaningful way but there are three different types available here............ from basic cabin type to intermediate and then the top of the range ......... we tried the cabin and mid range ...... comfortable, clean and well priced.... neither of the rooms had air con but really not needed when we were there.
We only tried the restaurant for dinner and it was very good and tasty..... better to order early in the day as they have a lot of coach groups who tend to take over the area.....that way you're guaranteed to eat and its not expensive at all.
The gardens are massive and incredibly colourful with so many different species you'd have to be some sort of expert to know them all. They also grow all of their own veggies that are used in the kitchen so its fresh and very delicious.
If you like local fruits, Durian, Mangosteen and many other tropical types then the volume and quality will make you glad you made the trip.
They also have a coffee shop where you can have various drinks including beer if you choose.... the souvenir shop has many offerings of local produce and interesting little knick knacks.
This place is a hidden gem that you really should take the time and go take a look...... everyone is so friendly and helpful ...
