The history of the walled city of Campeche is fascinating. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site definitely worth seeing.

The city wall is an impressive architectural element with quite big impact on the architectural layout of the old centre. Compare with other city walls in the world it is a pity that quite some parts have been torn down. People noticed now and are...More

I did the fuul loop of the old city and old city wall. Firstly the wall doesn't go all the way around. My guess would be 60%. It's a decent walk so I suggest not doing it in the heat around the middle of the...More

this place was really cool. i didn't know mexico had a pirate problem in the old days but that's what they put this big old wall up. we think of pyramids but mexico has a lot to offer with colonial history as well.

Tired of Pirates ransacking your city, build a wall, which Campeche did ! Maybe not on the top of your visit list but it is well worth a look. They are even restoring parts of it, versus tearing it down. Check it out. Enjoy! Skippyfrizz...More

I sight to behold.A good portion of the original wall that surrounded the city of Campeche is still intact built by the Spaniards to protect from invasion of pirates such as `Blackbeard'.A must see for history buffs !

They're old and not particularly interesting. There are a couple of museums in various sections. One had some historical items. Interesting if you like old weapons and pirate lore. Another museum was closed for 5 days. Campeche, in general, is a work in progress.

Campeche is one of a few walled cities where original walls still exist. A walk about is interesting and unique.

Campeche and pirates go hand in hand, and no visit to this city would be complete without a visit to the Old City Wall that served as a fortification against pirate attacks during the 17th century. We started our visit at the Baluarte de San...More
