Having a bit of spare time just popped in for a quick drink. But had a soup as well. What can I say but wow!! This place must be what everyone dreams about. With views to die for binoculars provided by cafe. Wish I could go again...it looks like it's well supported by the locals and what a assets...

A very good local museum that fills what has, in the past, been a serious gap in the town. Newbiggin has a fascinating history and deserves it's story to be told. As an exiled Newbiggin native, I found the displays very nostalgic and, particularly the audio-visual presentation, extremely emotive, but it does concentrate, quite rightly, on the fishing side of... This is a small centre in a lovely building. The exhibition is well displayed and gives a great insight into the local community and the brave volunteers. The cafe in the centre is nicely arranged and provides good food and drink.

Loads of interesting things to see and do and also a very nice cafe in the attraction. Prices reasonable. When the visit is finished there is a very nice promenade to walk on which is totally flat. If you get a paper from the centre it gives you various nos to look for as you are walking and it gives... More

Thank you Catherine S for your comment and so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Newbiggin Maritime Centre. The sculpture is called 'Couple' and by the artist Sean Henry. But the locals gave them the names of 'Ebb and Flo', shortly after they were installed 8 years ago. We are going to restore the Rocket House over the next 9... More

Called at Newbiggin on my way to Jarrow just to have a look around. Decided to have a look around the Maritime Centre and found it interesting. Places like this need our support. Didn't go into the cafe but it was busy and the cakes looked good! Was impressed by the beach and promenade.

Thank you Trish4837 for your lovely comments. The volunteers do work extremely hard to share the heritage of the village with our visitors. We are about to begin restoring the Rocket House and would love to welcome you back next summer. Best wishes. More

A complex of a museum, Cafe, gift shop and 'lecture' theater. First had coffee and snack in the cafe. Very good and effectively run. Museum is not large but provides a good representation of the hard life endured in the area in times passed before mechanisation was introduced. Worth watching some of the short films that were produced back before... More

The maritime centre is right on the beachfront with sweeping promenades and white sandy beaches which seems to constantly have a council worker in a tractor and rake going up and down maintaining it - so it's immaculate. There is a free all day car park throughout the year which is a real bonus, and I. Town is a small... More

Thank you Mrba2015 for your review. We are so proud of the restored Mary Joicey. She was not a pretty picture when she was brought back to the village, but a lot of work over many months were worth it, I am sure you will agree. We hope to have the Rocket House restored by next summer so it may... More
